YouTube Music's new streaming feature is good, but it could be so much better

YouTube Music has quietly launched a new feature that offers suggestions for devices to stream your music to. If you often like to stream your music to a compatible Wi-Fi connected device, like a smart TV or wireless speaker, you'll probably get some benefit from this upgrade.

Available on both the iOS and Android versions of the YouTube Music app, the new feature was originally spotted by ChromeUnboxed (Opens in a new tab) and appears as a "Tip" section at the top of the "Stream to a device" menu. ". This new section will feature compatible streaming devices connected to your Wi-Fi network, including the best Google Nest smart TVs or speakers, to name just two examples.

These suggestions seem to be based on the devices you use the most. As such, it could be an effective time saver that allows you to tune in to your favorite speaker right away, instead of scrolling through the entire list of streaming devices.

If the suggestion is not what you are looking for, you can also remove it from the "Suggestion List" simply by tapping the "X" next to the device name. This will replace it with another hint if the app can find one.

A nice feature, but more is needed

While we welcome any improvements or additions to YouTube Music's quality of life, we think this stream suggestions feature could have gone a step further. The feature, by default, seems to suggest which connection your phone broadcasts the most. As such, it won't necessarily suggest the closest device to you at any given time.

For example, you can use a television or wireless speakers in your living room as the most used streaming option. But if you're in another room (say, if you're a remote worker with wireless speakers at your desk), these tips probably won't be the most helpful to you right now.

Without embargo, the function is promising and our encantaría ver que Google la plus aún más en algún momento. If you're the type of person who has more than one device you stream to frequently, then a preference to set suggestions on the device closest to you - as opposed to the one you use the most - would make a really nice bet. al day.

However, to give credit where it is due, Google has been improving the YouTube Music experience at a steady pace. A few months ago, it added the ability to save your music queues as playlists on Android devices.

More recently, it enabled YouTube Premium subscribers to stream music to Wear OS devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. Hopefully, Google can continue that steady stream of quality-of-life updates throughout this year and next, and suggest improvements if necessary.
