Elder Scrolls 6 Exclusivity Wouldn't "Punish" PS5 Players, Says Xbox Boss

Since Bethesda's 2022 sci-fi adventure Starfield was confirmed as an Xbox and PC exclusive at E3 2021, questions have arisen about whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will also be missing from the PS5.

In an interview with GQ, Xbox boss Phil Spencer shed some light on the exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6, and that doesn't sound too positive for fans of Sony's current-gen machine.

“This is not about punishing another platform, as I basically believe that all platforms can continue to grow,” Spencer said. "But to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full package of what we have. And that would be true when I think of Elder Scrolls 6. It would be true when I think of one of our franchisees.

In the same interview, Bethesda game director Todd Howard did not add any hints as to whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will actually be an Xbox exclusive console, or whether it will launch soon enough for the current generation of Xbox. X / S series.

However, since November 2021 is the 5th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls XNUMX: Skyrim, Howard seemed to feel the pressure of being able to dominate a legendary game in the eyes of his vast player base.

“I think it would drive me crazy to try to say, 'Okay, that's what you have to get over,'” Howard said of Skyrim's seemingly endless lifespan. "But then you realize that, for example, The Elder Scrolls 6 has to be a 'game of the decade'. How do you make a game that you get into, like 'people have to play it for a decade?'" "

While it has yet to be confirmed, it appears that The Elder Scrolls 6, an Xbox console exclusive, is a doom. However, judging from Spencer's feedback, this exclusive would be less about taking something away from PS5 players (though that's what exclusivity would accomplish) and more about creating a custom Elder Scrolls experience on Xbox.

Xbox's trump card is undoubtedly the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which will undoubtedly play a vital role in bringing The Elder Scrolls 6 to Xbox and PC from day one. In this case, it is not necessary to purchase the game as it will be ready for subscribers to download in advance at no additional cost.

It's an incredible deal, considering that the Elder Scrolls series is one of the most beloved in the game. And like Starfield, a new main series Elder Scrolls game certainly has the potential to switch consoles if consumers know they can access the game for as little as a monthly subscription.

Of course, these are all speculations to be taken with a grain of salt. We still don't know if The Elder Scrolls 6 is really an Xbox exclusive. However, we would be more surprised if it weren't at this time.
