Jamie Foxx Uncovers Strange Plot in First Animated Trailer for They Cloned Tyrone

The first trailer for They Cloned Tyrone has landed online, and it looks like an absolute hoopla.

Revealed at Tudum 2022, Netflix's worldwide fan event, the sci-fi comedy starring Jamie Foxx, John Boyega and Teyonah Parris looks set to be a smash hit when it arrives.

Check out the official trailer for the hilarious '70s-style Netflix movie below:

So far, not much has been revealed about the plot of They Cloned Tyrone. Prior to the trailer, the film was only given a brief plot synopsis, which read, "Three lifelong friends find themselves at the center of a mind-bending plot."

However, with the arrival of the trailer, we have a better idea of how his narrative will play out. Boyega, Foxx and Parris play Fontaine, Slick and Yo-Yo respectively, and the trio uncovers a massive conspiracy after a series of strange events puts them on the trail of a heinous government experiment.

Netflix describes They Cloned Tyrone as a "pulpy, mysterious hug" and the trailer certainly gives off those vibes. However, the upcoming movie feels like a throwback to the era of blaxploitation cinema: indie films set in the 1970s that celebrated black culture, racial injustices, and more mature content. These films were performed and crewed by blacks and spanned a wide range of genres. They Cloned Tyrone feels like a celebration of that time, based on its characters' attire and gritty cinematography.

Juel Taylor (Twenties, Boomerang) is directing from a script co-written by himself and Tony Rettenmaier. They Cloned Tyrone doesn't have an official release date yet, but rumors suggest it could hit Netflix before the end of the year. The trailer says it's "coming soon," so it's likely to drop before the end of 2022. Although They Cloned Tyrone won't be released this year, there are plenty of new Netflix movies for subscribers to enjoy in the coming months.
