Instagram Reels Launches in India, Just in Time to Take Over for TikTok
Since the Indian government has banned 59 apps including the popular TikTok, we have seen the rise of similarly liked apps like Zee5, Chingari, etc. The latest addition to the range are Instagram Reels. Instagram today confirmed that it has started testing the new video sharing format in India. This will be an addition to the IGTV story and functionality that already exists on Instagram. India is the fourth country, after Brazil, Germany and France, where this new format is tested.

In a nutshell, Instagram Reels is another way to share short videos on the platform. Their goal is to redefine the future of entertainment on the platform. It also allows you to record and edit a short video. However, the time is limited to 15 seconds. It allows you to add multi-clip videos with audio, effects and new tools to the reels. Just like other Instagram posts, you can share them with your subscribers in Feed. You can access the rollers on the Explorer page of the application. The functionality will start rolling out to users in India from 7:30pm IST today. It comes with a huge collection of music because Instagram has partnered with various music labels. You also get Spark AR effects on Instagram that allow for more creation and expression on the platform. Finally, the "Created on Instagram" program for creators will help them grow.

How to create, share and watch a reel

  • Select Reels at the bottom of the Instagram camera.
  • Select audio, AR effects, timer and countdown, alignment and speed (one of your choice)
  • Record the video
  • Post it
  • You can directly share the reel with your subscribers. Reels you post to Feed or Explore will also appear in the Reels tab of your profile. You can also share stories. If you have a public account, you can share your reel in a dedicated space in Explore. If you have a private account, you can share feeds or stories. To view a reel that someone posted, it will be available in a new slot. These will be created by the diverse community on Instagram, such as an actor, inspirational advocate, dance trend, or beauty in a custom vertical stream just for you.
