It has been revealed that Google Workspace boss Javier Soltero will be leaving the division after three years.
The veteran executive is expected to step down on July 15, according to an internal email sent by Google Cloud president Thomas Kurian, reported by Protocol.
Before joining Google, Soltero spent more than four years at Microsoft, where he rose to the rank of corporate vice president of Cortana, after starting as general manager of Outlook Mobile.
Aparna Pappu, who currently serves as vice president of engineering at Google, is expected to replace Soltero. She has more than 14 years of experience within the company and has held various senior engineering positions in different fields.
Evolution of Google Workspace
Soltero's tenure has certainly been a success for the suite of productivity software and collaboration tools. The number of monthly active users of Google Workspace has increased by more than 50% in the last three years.
And Google hasn't slowed down in terms of rolling out new features during Bachelor's reign.
For example, Google Workspace recently received a new sharing interface in an effort to make online collaboration easier for users. This streamlined approach brings controls that were previously more separate into one easy-to-use panel.
Although the latest data shows that Google is still far behind Microsoft in the desktop software market, Soltero suggested that he leaves the project well-positioned to further challenge its rival.
"I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside so many talented people on amazing products that truly benefit billions of people," Soltero said on Twitter. "I am proud of what we have accomplished during this time and am confident in the Workspace team, its leaders and our strategy."
