GHD Flight Review | The comparison THE BEST DEALS OF THE DAY

One minute review

GHD is best known for its hair straighteners. The company has spent the last two decades offering ceramic flat irons, replacing steam irons as a must-have styling tool. However, over nine years ago, GHD also entered the world of hair dryers and now offers three different models, the smallest and most compact of which is the GHD Flight. Designed to fit in your suitcase, the GHD Flight is 50% lighter than the GHD Air, yet offers 70% of the power, at 1400W, allowing you to dry your hair in a relatively short amount of time. The GHD Flight comes with a folding handle, which allows the dryer to take up as little space as possible in your suitcase. It works with both 120V and 240V power sources, so it can truly be used anywhere in the world. It has two temperature settings, as well as a slower and cooler option for setting styles, and the blow dryer will automatically shut off if held too close to the hair while drying to prevent overheating. In the box you will find a concentrator tip and a transport bag. At €99 / €59 / AU$99, the GHD Flight is the most affordable hair dryer GHD has to offer and is ideal for those on a budget. It's also a great extra hair dryer for those on the go, fitting easily into a bag or suitcase, knowing you won't be shipping luggage beyond a weight limit. However, those looking for a hair dryer with a host of accessories to create a wide range of hair styles may look better elsewhere.

The GHD Flight is the brand's entry-level hair dryer and is priced at $99 / £59 / AU$99. It's available from GHD or Amazon worldwide. GHD also offers a mid-range hair dryer, the GHD Air, which will set you back £199 / £99 / AU$220, while its higher-end model, the GHD Helios, costs £249 / £159 / AU$295. €.

Integrated

The GHD Flight is the most compact hair dryer we've tested to date, measuring 9,6 x 5,2 x 2,7 inches / 24,4 x 13,3 x 6,8 cm (H x W x D) . Its folding handle means that its dimensions are further reduced to 7,9 x 4,1 x 2,7 inches / 20 x 10,5 x 6,8 cm. It's also lightweight at just 0,9lbs/422g. The hair dryer features a sleek matte black design, with a gold slider that lets you select one of two temperature settings, or the cool shot function to set your hair after styling - a look that's reminiscent of the GHD Air. , though the gold band around the barrel of the Air hair dryer has been dropped in favor of a glossy black accent. As already mentioned, the 1400W hair dryer is dual voltage, so it can be used anywhere in the world. Simply use a coin to turn the dial to select the correct voltage (either 120V or 240V) for the country you are using it in. The hair dryer has a 1,8m cord and comes with a concentrator tip and soft carry bag in the box. The hanging loop is also a nice touch and is usually a feature of hair dryers used in salons.

Performance

Although the GHD Flight offers less power than some of the brand's other hair dryers, it's certainly not slow when it comes to drying times. On the lowest heat setting, it took 5 minutes and 52 seconds for thin, shoulder-length hair to go from damp to completely dry. The use of the hottest settings has been reduced by 1 minute and 51 seconds this time. On both settings, the strands remained smooth, though they didn't have the shine we've gotten with other blow dryers, and there were more flyaways than usual. We attribute this to a lack of technology that uses negative ions to speed up evaporation and reduce flyaways. The GHD Flight was balanced in the hand when blow-drying and was comfortable to hold in either the left or right hand (we switched hands depending on which side of the head we were styling). The hair dryer was easy to fold into its most compact form, while the hinge was durable and offered a reassuring click when the handle was moved. Also be aware of the fact that the GHD Flight will automatically shut off if it is placed too close to the hair, to prevent the blow dryer from overheating. However, we were disappointed to find that the filter is not removable, which can make the hair dryer difficult to clean. As for noise, the GHD Flight registered 77,8 db on our decibel meter at its fastest setting. This puts it in the middle of the range when it comes to loud hair care devices, and is equivalent to the noise level emitted by a vacuum cleaner. However, since it's likely to only run for a few minutes at a time, it's unlikely to be a bother.

Should I buy the GHD Flight?

Buy it if...

You want a compact hair dryer
Measuring 7,9 x 4,1 x 2,7 inches / 20 x 10,5 x 6,8 cm when folded and weighing just 0,9 lbs / 422 g, the GHD Flight is one of the most popular and compact hair dryers we've tested. you have a budget
While it is not the cheapest hair dryer on the market, it is the most affordable hair care device GHD has to offer. As such, if you're looking for a salon brand but money is tight, this hair dryer is worth considering. You want double tension
Many travel hair dryers, while compact, are not necessarily suitable for use anywhere in the world. The GHD Flight offers variable voltage, making it ideal for those who want a hair dryer that will work abroad in multiple countries.

Don't buy it if...

You want a variety of accessories
If you're looking to create a variety of hair styles while drying your locks, you'll need a number of different accessories, including focus nozzles and diffusers. The GHD comes with only one accessory, so it's best to avoid it if you're looking for more versatility. Do you want a quiet hair dryer?
Recording 77,8 db on our decibel meter means this isn't the quietest hair dryer we've tested. It's not the loudest either, but should be avoided as loud devices are a frustration. You want a removable filter
It's a small point, but one that makes all the difference when it comes to keeping your hair dryer in top condition. Connected to the hair dryer, it will be difficult to remove the lint accumulated on the filter of the GHD Flight. First Review: August 2021 TOP DEALS OF THE DAY
