This new decentralized VPN allows users to take advantage of bandwidth

Exidio has released mobile apps for its decentralized VPN (dVPN) that not only encrypts data sent to and from iOS and Android smartphones, but also allows users to earn passive income in the process.

Unlike other VPN services, corporate users can offer excess bandwidth and node hosting to earn some revenue by providing resources to others.

In an interview with Coinbase, Exidio CEO Dan Edlebeck explained how their decentralized VPN differs from existing centralized VPNs, saying:

“We provide many of the same benefits as centralized VPN, but on an open source peer-to-peer network where people donate bandwidth and earn revenue to deliver that resource to the network. And anyone who is connected to the VPN network gets an encrypted connection that has been proven not to be an intermediary.

Sentinel Network

Exidio's new mobile apps are built on the Sentinel Network, which is a peer-to-peer bandwidth marketplace in the Cosmos blockchain ecosystem that went live earlier this year.

While developers can use the Sentinel network to build dVPN applications that take advantage of the Sentinel marketplace, end users can make payments using cryptocurrencies native to the DVPN network or with a debit or credit card.

Exidio offers pay-per-use prices ranging from € 1.99 to € 19.99 depending on the user's bandwidth needs.

In the future, Exidio plans to release desktop apps for its decentralized VPN, as well as a supply-driven app that will allow users to donate bandwidth and start earning revenue from the service. However, Edlebeck also says that the company wants to launch its own VPN router so that users can easily give away their excess bandwidth to others.
