January 2022 PS Plus games may have been revealed earlier

The first lineup of PlayStation Plus games for 2022 may have been leaked ahead of Sony's official announcement.

The leak comes from the Dealabs forum, where user billbill-kun said that the PS Plus lineup for January 2022 will include Deep Rock Galactic for PS5 and PS4, Dirt 5 for PS5 and PS4, and Persona 5 Strikers for PS4.

Naturally, as with any unconfirmed report, we recommend that you take it with a pinch of salt. That said, billbill-kun doesn't exactly have a bad track record when it comes to predicting next month's PS Plus games. They have already accurately revealed the lineups for September, October, November and December, so if January turns out to be correct, it will be five times five.

As with previous leaks via Dealabs, this only comes a few days before we can reasonably expect Sony to make their official announcement of the free games that PS Plus subscribers can look forward to in January, so there are none. lingering uncertainty; it won't last long. .

Whichever lineup is officially revealed, it won't be available until early January. In the meantime, you can make sure you don't miss the December lineup that includes Godfall: Challenger Edition for PS4 and PS5, along with Lego DC Super Villains and Mortal Shell for PS4.

Analysis: what future does PS Plus have?

In addition to granting PlayStation players access to online play, each month PS Plus offers subscribers a selection of free games to add to their PlayStation library. The lineup still contains a mix of PS4 and PS5 titles, and recent lineups have been expanded to include PlayStation VR games. If you like to play with friends online or are always looking for a new game to take advantage of, this is a pretty good subscription.

Of course, you may not have exactly the same setup throughout 2022, as recent reports have suggested that PlayStation's subscription offer could change soon. As reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Sony may be working on an Xbox Game Pass competitor, currently dubbed "Spartacus."

According to the report, this new PlayStation subscription service would combine the PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services, retaining the brand of the former and phasing out the latter.

The report claims that the service will have multiple tiers, with the most basic tier already covering what PS Plus already covers: access to online services and a handful of free games each month. A second tier would give subscribers access to a variety of PlayStation 4 and possibly PS5 games to download as on Xbox Game Pass. Finally, a third level would offer everything included in the first two, as well as demos and games from previous PlayStation consoles.

At this time, Sony has not confirmed any reports on its plans and there are no pricing details. With the current success of Xbox Game Pass, 2022 seems like a good time for the PlayStation Plus service to grow and grow.
