The fastest download speeds on 5G were recorded in the United States, followed by Saudi Arabia, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, according to Ookla Speedtest.
The speed test was conducted between June and August this year.
In the US, the average download speed on 5G is 477.42 Mbit/s, against 34.33 Mbit/s on 4G.
In Saudi Arabia, the download speed over 5G is 395.04 Mbit/s, compared to 42.11 Mbit/s on 4G, while in the UAE, the download speed is 334.27 Mbit/s on 5G, at 59.23 Mbit / s in 4G.
At the other end of the spectrum, the UK had the slowest average download speed on 5G.
Australia was second slowest and Bahrain third slowest.
However, Bahrain saw the second-highest percentage improvement when comparing 4G and 5G download speeds, and Kuwait ranked third.
Australia saw the lowest percentage increase between 4G and 5G download speeds and Qatar the second weakest.
Switzerland at the top of download speed
Average download speeds above 5G are less notable, though in nearly every country Ookla surveyed, they represent a 50-120% improvement over those available on 4G.
Kuwait was the exception with only a 26,6% improvement in average upload speed using 5G instead of 4G.
The United States and Bahrain were nearly tied for most improvements, with respective increases of 119.7% and 119.1%, respectively, when comparing average upload speeds on 5G to 4G.
Switzerland recorded the fastest download speed, 5G, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the third. The average upload speed on 5G was the slowest in the UK, the second slowest in the US and the third fastest in Kuwait.
The proportion of tests carried out on 5G in 4G or 5G differs considerably between the countries on our list. South Korea was clearly in the lead, with 5G accounting for almost 13% of the 4G/5G Speedtest samples. This is not surprising given that a South Korean mobile operator has 1 million 5G subscribers. Australia has the second highest percentage of 5G trials and the UAE is third. Saudi Arabia had the lowest percentage of 5G scores.
