YouTube Music redesign finally comes to iPad

Just two years after the changes were first rolled out to Android devices, the YouTube Music app for iPad has finally received a major update.

As 9to5Google pointed out (opens in a new tab), a new version of the app that just appeared on the App Store brings some much-needed changes to the Now Playing screen.

The UI overhaul primarily brings improvements to the display of cover art, with images no longer edge-to-edge thanks to a new border.

Touch the artwork to reveal options to share what's playing, download it for offline listening, or add the track to a playlist.

The thumbs up/down have been moved next to the song title and artist, while the playback controls now sit neatly below the cover art.

However, it is not all good news. Although you can now swipe up or down to access the Next queue, for some reason you can't swipe left and right to change tracks like you can with Android versions of the app.

While it's unclear why the changes took so long to arrive in the iPadOS version of the app (the iPhone app was redesigned over a year ago), the changes will be welcomed by users of the service on Apple's tablet.

Most ignored of all were YouTube Music's iPad subscribers who wondered if the platform had been abandoned altogether.
