Twitter founder says centralization has 'really hurt the internet'

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey left the company in November 2021 after 16 years and has since been working on undisclosed projects, most likely related to blockchain.

The weather has clearly given Dorsey some space to think and reflect, which led to an interesting tweet from the weekend.

"The days of Usenet, IRC, the Web...even email (with PGP)...were awesome," Dorsey wrote. "The centralization of discovery and identity in enterprises has really damaged the Internet. I realize that I am partly responsible and I regret it."

decentralization post

Under Dorsey, Twitter was taking some steps towards decentralization, including the launch of Bluesky, but they are still in their infancy.

Dorsey remains the CEO of Block, formerly Square, and the company changed its name shortly after he left Twitter. Block, of course, has parallels with blockchain.

While cryptocurrency is full of scams and people trying to make a quick buck, many of the top technologists are involved in the space, a potential sign that its underlying technologies and ideas are here to stay.

Given his most recent tweet, it seems that Dorsey longs to return to the old decentralized web, which many Web3 proponents would like to see.
