Disney Plus Premier Access: What is it, how do I get it and what can I watch?
Disney Plus Premier Access was introduced in September 2020 with the live-action blockbuster Mulan. Following the coronavirus outbreak, this film was pulled from a theatrical release and placed on Disney Plus, where subscribers could pay additional fees to view it. But what started out as a "one-off" approach could well become more commonplace as lockdowns continue, with Raya and the Last Dragon, the second Disney Plus Premier Access movie released in March. It should delight the whole family, and not just because they won't have to get off the couch to see it! Join Disney Plus now

What is Disney Plus Premier Access?

Disney Plus Premier Access helps recreate the movie experience. New Walt Disney Studios titles are available on the day and date of their theatrical release on Disney Plus, which means you can enjoy them in the comfort of your own home for a one-time additional fee. Not only can you share the excitement of the latest big-budget movie with your family or friends, Premier titles are available to view in stunning UHD or HDR quality and Dolby Audio sound. The €30 fee may seem steep - although it's cheaper than two cinema tickets and a bucket of popcorn - but once you've parted with your money, you can watch the movie over and over again. That's on top of enjoying the latest Disney extravaganza months before it was made available to regular Disney Plus subscribers.

How do I get Premier access to Disney Plus?

Watching a Disney Plus Premier Access title is pretty easy, but you need to be a Disney Plus member first. So if you don't have a subscription, go to the website to sign up. Enter your email address, select a monthly or yearly plan, then enter your credit card details. You will now be able to purchase new versions of Disney Plus Premier Access. These can be found on the home page or by entering the name of the movie in the search tool. Click on the desired title and you will receive a purchase message, before being asked to verify your credit card details. Ready! Once that's done, you'll be ready to stream the latest and greatest from Disney. And, as long as you remain a subscriber, you'll be able to watch the movie as often as you like. Please note that a Premier Plus title can also be purchased through various devices with the Disney Plus app, including Apple, Google, Amazon and Roku.

What can I watch on Disney Plus Premier Access?

Animated fantasy adventure Raya and the Last Dragon will be the platform's second Disney Plus Premier Access title when it launches on March 5. Disney's epic live-action film Mulan was the first to debut on Premier Plus after the pandemic shut down theaters. Those who pay the Premier rate can stream it exclusively for three months, before it becomes available to all Disney Plus subscribers at no additional cost. Also, the early access window for Raya and the Last Dragon is open from March 5 to May 4. If you haven't paid for the movie by then, you won't be able to watch it until after it's added to the Disney Plus library on June 4 and streams for free with a monthly subscription. At the moment, no other film is planned for this type of release. But given the current situation, Disney CEO Bob Chapek hasn't ruled out more theatrical and VOD releases for movies like Marvel's Black Widow.

How much does Disney Plus Premier Access cost?

While the amount charged by Premier Access may change, especially if it becomes a more regular way to attract a paying audience, the fee has so far been constant at €29.99 / €19.99 GBP / 34, €99 AUD / € 21.99 for Mulan and Raya and the last dragon. It's also worth remembering that once you've made that up-front payment, the movie is yours to keep, well, until you cancel your Disney Plus membership. Speaking of which, the price of Disney Plus is worth considering. The monthly subscription is currently €6.99 / GBP 5.99 / AUD 8.99 / EUR 6.99, but it will increase in international territories from February 23, while new subscribers in the US will see their monthly bill increase by €1 to starting March 26.
