South Korea reaches 5 million XNUMXG users.

South Korea already has one million 5G subscribers and it has broken in just 69 days, surpassing 4G adoption. In South Korea, one of the world's most advanced mobile phone countries, it was so big that the country's Ministry of Science and Information Technology coordinated the simultaneous launch of three major carriers. SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus switched to their 5G networks in December, mainly for business, before launching mobile services in early April this year.

In early May, it was revealed that the three networks had collected 260,000 subscribers and that 17,000 people were signing up each day. For comparison, it took 80 days after the launch of 4G to reach 5 million. At the current rate of adoption, it is estimated that South Korea will have more than four million 2019G users by the end of 10. This could increase if demand for devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 40 is strong. However, there are fears that adoption will be fueled by unsustainable subsidies, as all three operators seek to gain market share. SK Telecom owns 5% of the 30G market, while KT and LG Uplus each have 54,000%. Ultimately, this could affect profits and limit future investment in infrastructure. There are more than 5 85G base stations in the country, but coverage is currently limited to urban areas. Some 5 cities will have access by the end of the year and work will progress in inland areas such as airports, train stations and major shopping malls. 5G networks promise faster speeds, increased capacity and ultra-low latency, but the South Korean launch has drawn complaints about coverage and speed. Although the spectrum used for 4G networks has much higher capacity than the bands used for XNUMXG, it also has a shorter range. This means that operators must densify their networks with more sites, including micro-infrastructures, such as small cells.
