BT Sport Ultimate presents HDR sports matches in the UK

Looking to improve your game when it comes to high-quality sports programming? BT Sport Ultimate is the first British TV channel to broadcast live games in high dynamic range, or, as you may already know, HDR, promising enhanced visuals for all your favorite sporting events.

Technically rebranded as the existing BT Sport 4K UHD network, the new name BT Sport Ultimate will be able to stream Ultra HD and HDR streams, while BT viewers will even receive Dolby Atmos so they can enjoy the entertainment. The atmosphere places an enveloping surround sound.

While most newer TVs today demand 4K resolution for sharper, more detailed images, HDR is what makes these extra pixels really count. With a wider color gamut and sharper contrast, everything from the grass pitches at Wimbledon to the multi-colored World Cup Soccer jerseys will pop more than ever.

Where, when and how

The first live HDR match on BT Sport Ultimate will take place on Sunday 4 August 2019 between Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, you will need a display that supports these image and audio formats. So make sure you have a 4K HDR compatible TV before you start squinting to see the difference in the picture, not to mention a BT TV set-top box, included with BT TV Total Entertainment, Max, or Max HD subscriptions.

While HDR works slightly differently on mobiles, to increase the brightness in the colorful sections of the screen, subscribers to the monthly payment EE 5G will be able to view the enhanced photo in the BT Sport app.

A press release for the channel launch says BT Sport Ultimate "will soon expand to other BT Sport customers, such as EE 4G monthly payment customers and those who view it through the BT Sport app or via Sky."
