BT makes its TV plans even more flexible with the addition of Netflix

Netflix is now available as part of BT TV's flexible entertainment package, which includes the cost of a Netflix subscription in your monthly BT bill, the company said in a press release.

The addition of Netflix was announced as part of a review of BT TV's entertainment packages, Big Entertainment and VIP TV. This means that users can add a Netflix subscription to their monthly bill, essentially upgrading them at a single price.

The plan can also be optionally upgraded to Netflix's HD and Ultra HD tiers for an additional €4 and €8, respectively. Additionally, existing Netflix subscribers have the option to transfer their account to incorporate the cost of the subscription into their monthly BT TV bill.

BT also announced a new promotion whereby customers who sign up for new BT TV entertainment packages before December 2 will get their first three months of service at half price.

This brings the entertainment package down to €8 for the first three months, Big Entertainment to €13 and VIP to €35.50. The first two include a basic Netflix package, while the VIP package includes a standard Netflix package with all Sky Sports and Sky Cinema channels.

It will certainly be an attractive deal for some, especially with the recent launch of the excellent BT TV Box Pro, the company's best set-top box yet.

The new inclusion of Netflix along with the Box Pro's 4K HDR capabilities and Dolby Atmos spatial audio support means customers will be able to watch top Netflix shows like Squid Game, Midnight Mass and the upcoming Cowboy Bebop adaptation in stunning quality. .

Analysis: take on Sky?

While Netflix is a great addition for BT TV customers, the popular subscription service has been a mainstay on Sky Q boxes for quite some time now. Sky's set-top box allows customers to save money on a Netflix subscription by integrating it into their monthly bill, and the same goes for people who have subscribed to BT TV's entertainment packages.

Provided you get the most out of your BT TV entertainment subscription, of course. The cost of the basic entertainment package is €16 per month under normal circumstances. So customers who make the most of it, watch shows on Sky Atlantic and use their included Now TV subscription, are in a great position to save money by including Netflix in their secondary cost.

The decision to add Netflix to BT TV could better help the company compete with Sky's own offerings. Especially as BT TV packages also offer Sky's range of channels and exclusives through the Now TV subscription. And while boxes like Sky Q offer more streaming services than we know what to do with, BT TV being able to offer both Netflix and channels like Sky Atlantic is a boon to its customers.
