AWS has made quantum computing more accessible than ever

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that its Amazon Braket quantum computing development environment has become generally available. The service acts as a testbed for quantum algorithms, allowing customers to build and troubleshoot their programs on simulated quantum computers running on AWS resources. Once perfected, companies can use Amazon Braket to run algorithms on a selection of quantum hardware based on different technologies, from companies like D-Wave, IonQ, and Rigetti. This is because Braket offers companies a simpler and more viable path to quantum computing, solving problems related to hardware availability, infrastructure configuration and vendor management.

Quantum computing approaches computing in a totally different way than classical computing, exploiting the quantum mechanical principles of superposition and entanglement. By using this alternative method, quantum computers can greatly exceed the capabilities of traditional machines in certain scenarios. "Quantum computers use a different approach to problem solving that exploits certain symmetries in a given problem," Rashid Mansoor, chief technology officer at British supercomputing company Hadean, told TechRadar. “In some respects, even a small quantum computer can be exponentially faster than all of Earth's classical computing power combined. However, for other reasons, a quantum computer might be slower than a pocket calculator. " According to AWS, Braket will give companies a way to assess how quantum computing could support their future goals, while developing the skill base needed to seize those opportunities. By bringing various quantum computing technologies under one roof, Braket it also eliminates the need for companies to contract with multiple vendors or commit to a single technology.”As we see quantum computing technologies advance more significantly, thousands of customers are asking for ways to experiment with quantum computers to explore the potential of the technology and contribute to its development," said Bill Vass, AWS Vice President of Technology. "The cloud will be the primary means for customers to access quantum computers and combine these systems with classical high-performance computing. for certain types of computationally intensive research Our goal for Amazon Braket is to be a catalyst for innovation within the quantum community. " Amazon Braket is now available to customers in the following AWS Regions (and more to follow): US East (N. Virginia), US West (N. California), and US West.
