The Mandalorian season 3: release date, story, cast and what we know

The Mandalorian season 3: release date, story, cast and what we know Mandalorian season 3 confirmed, but its release date seems to require a bit of waiting. In December 2020, it was announced that a spin-off show called The Book of Boba Fett would precede the third season of Disney Plus's flagship Star Wars show, which means we're expecting the series to return in 2022. Below, we'll round it all up. what we know about The Mandalorian season 3, including when we expect it to return to the streaming service, that season 2's story threads are likely to continue, and how it will tie in with other future projects in the Star Wars universe. Spoilers for season 2 are coming, in case you haven't seen the series yet.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Release Date: 2022

The Mandalorian season 3 does not yet have a confirmed release date. We know that the series will go into production after the end of filming on Boba Fett's book and this latest series has already started production in December 2020, according to creator Jon Favreau. Some were concerned that there would not be a third season of The Mandalorian and that The Book of Boba Fett would take its place. But that's not true: Favreau has confirmed that The Mandalorian Season 3 will follow the same main character and continue Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) story. “What we didn't say in that announcement is the next upcoming show – it said the next chapter: this will be the Boba Fett book,” Favreau told Good Morning America in December 2020, referring to Lucasfilm's announcement of many new Star projects. Wars". And then we go into production immediately after that on season 3 of The Mandalorian, back with the main character we've all known and loved. Soon will be the sequel. We're working on that pre-production now while we're in production on Boba Fett. " With the official arrival of The Book of Boba Fett in December 2021, that makes The Mandalorian season 3 release date an absolute certainty of 2022. We expect to see it in the first half of this year.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Story: What Happens Next?

(Image credit: Lucasfilm/screengrab) We think there are two big season 2 plot threads that The Mandalorian season 3 has to pay off: who will wield the Darksaber? And when will Grogu, aka The Child, aka Baby Yoda, return to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) after training him under Jedi Master Luke Skywalker? At the end of Season 2, Mando gained Moff Gideon's (Giancarlo Esposito) Darksaber weapon, the Mandalorian sword highly coveted by Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), on his journey to reclaim the throne of Mandalore. However, it became clear that she couldn't just hand it over to Bo-Katan, and tensions rose when it became clear that she and Mando were going to have to fight for her to claim the weapon. This is sure to be picked up in The Mandalorian season 3 – any development on this front has been sabotaged by Luke Skywalker's impromptu appearance in season 2, episode 8. Speaking of Luke, that's the other big thread we're hoping to see in The Mandalorian. Season 3: Grogu left with Luke to be trained by the Force. "He is strong with the Force, but untrained talent is nothing. I will give my life to protect the Child... but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities." Mando promises that she will see Grogu again. But when? We'd be surprised if we don't see the little green guy again next season, although we did see in The Mandalorian season 7 episode 2 that the show is capable of great adventures without Grogu. Still, the adventures of Mando and Baby Yoda are at the heart of the series, and we don't expect that to change despite the huge cliffhanger. Then, of course, there's the rise of the Empire to deal with. Moff Gideon's ship is only a small part of the remaining Imperial forces waiting to be dealt with; we know that the Imperial leader, Grand Admiral Thrawn, is also alive and is being hunted by Ahsoka Tano. Hopefully Thrawn's story will form the basis of Ahsoka's next live-action show, but we may see her again in The Mandalorian. It's also likely that we'll see more hints at the Empire's use of Grogu's blood; It seemed pretty obvious that the series was targeting the cloned origins of the 'villainous' sequel trilogy Snoke, and the potential return of Emperor Palpatine that would have us sighing in disappointment in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

The cast of Mandalorian season 3: who do we hope will return

(Image credit: Lucasfilm Ltd) MANDALORIAN SEASON 2 REVIEW Although there is no officially confirmed casting for The Mandalorian season 3 yet, Pedro Pascal is set to return as Din Djarin, the star of the series. We've seen the actor without a helmet twice this season, and boy, was it a good reminder of how good he looks. It's unclear which other actors will return next season, but the show now has a great set to choose from. We expect Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan to make a comeback; maybe season 3 will deepen his quest to restore Mandalore, taking Mando for a ride. Carl Weathers (Greef Karga) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) will surely make a reappearance in the next series of episodes. Giancarlo Esposito seems pretty sure he'll be back as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 3. "I have a feeling you'll be seeing more of me next season," the actor told EW. With his life spared by Mando in the season 2 finale, why give up a perfect Imperial villain? It's possible that Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) will reappear after their lead roles in the upcoming The Boba Fett Book, but I'm not sure. An earlier report from Deadline, which correctly reported that a Boba Fett show was taking place, suggested that actress Sophie Thatcher may appear in season 3 of the show. We'll just have to wait a bit for a confirmed mailing list.

Mandalorian Season 3 Trailer: When Will We See One?

We don't expect to see a breakthrough The Mandalorian Season 3 until the end of 2021, possibly around the time of the Boba Fett book's release on Disney Plus.

The Mandalorian season 3 and its spin-off is headed for a 'climactic event'

The Mandalorian has three spin-offs in the works: The Book of Boba Fett, which we've covered before, and Ahsoka and the New Republic Rangers. All three take place in the same time period as the main show, which takes place five years after Return of the Jedi. The intriguing part is that there's a plan for this sub-universe of shows to converge into a larger story: It's a bit like what Netflix did by uniting its various Marvel superhero TV shows into the Defenders miniseries. “These interconnected shows, along with future stories, will excite new audiences, embrace our most passionate fans, and culminate in a historic landmark event,” Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy explained at Disney Investor Day in late 2020. So it looks like we're going to see a miniseries or a movie episode that brings these stories together, although we wouldn't expect to see that for a few years.
