Sony LIV Premium relaunches with Indian originals - discover the trailers

Netflix and Amazon Prime are doing a great job with India-focused content development and programming since 2019. Come Thursday and SonyLIV, the video-on-demand service owned by Sony Pictures, is throwing its hat in the crowded OTT ring. thanks to its premium offers. The company has already relaunched its website with a striking new design and has already begun updating its mobile app. Part of the relaunch includes a new avatar with new originals and exclusives aligned with their Premium service. The company is also increasing subscription to its premium service as a result, though no new pricing has been announced. Subscriptions to the OTT service increased exponentially after the Covid-19 lockdown from March 25 this year. Although the Big-2 did not reveal any numbers, Zee reported an increase in daily active users and app downloads of 33% and 41% respectively. While Alt Balaji reported a 60% increase in their daily subscriber base after the lockdown. Although SonyLIV lost this early lead, they are looking to catch up by launching India-based programming that includes original series and exclusives from Sony Pictures. There's the Jimmy Shergill movie Your Honor '', una nueva versión de un espectáculo israelí, el drama legal For Life'' and Kadakh directed by Ranvir Shorey which is a film about a cheating husband. With the arrival of these and many more exclusive movies like Spiderman, it might be a good time to sign up for an annual subscription at Rs.499 which will remain valid for the next three days. Amit Sadh's star "Avrodh - The Siege Within" based on surgical strikes after the Uri terror attack. The movie was directed by Raj Acharya who directed '21 Sarfarosh', a very popular series on Netflix. There is also 'Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story', which is based on the 1992 stock market scam, directed by Hansal Mehta. SonyLIV would also work with some top directors, notably Nil Battey Sannata's Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Nikhil Advani, Chhichhore's Nitesh Tiwari, Rohan Sippy and actor-host Kapil Sharma. Of course, it remains to be seen if Sony Pictures can make up for lost ground, given that even Apple TV Plus is now gearing up to join in on the fun alongside the existing big boys. One major issue that Sony LIV may have is a complete lack of regional content, which is fueling even someone like Amazon Prime which recently bought four South Indian movies for exclusive distribution.
