Should you buy a Kindle Prime Day deal or wait even longer to buy an e-reader?

With Amazon Prime Day approaching, you may be wondering whether you should buy the devices you're interested in now or wait a little longer until the online retailer's discount days start on July 12.

One popular device we see at a discount all the time is Amazon's Kindle range of e-readers, and this device is probably one of the best options this Prime Day too; Amazon is always quick to offer discounts on its own products for Prime Day.

In fact, if you're thinking of buying a new Kindle e-reader, we always recommend that you wait for the sale; they happen often enough that you don't have to buy it at full price.

So should a new Kindle e-reader be on your list of Prime Day devices to buy? Well, it really depends on the Kindle model you want: Basic, Paperwhite, or Oasis. We'll explain the three different types and let you know what your course of action should be.

Amazon Standard Kindle

Amazon's cheaper, but less feature-rich, entry-level Kindle e-reader range hasn't seen an update since 2019. A new e-reader innovation is coming.

Since he's the oldest member of the Kindle products currently on sale, he's often the first to get a discount during Prime Day (and Black Friday, and often throughout the year) sales.

So it's understandable that you're looking for a deal, and we recommend choosing one if you see one. Although there is a small chance that a new and improved model will launch later this year, a new model without a discount will be much more expensive than an older model at a reduced price, perhaps enough to justify the limited features.

That said, it depends on the level of discount offered. The current model launched for $89.99 / £69.99 / AU$139, but we've seen it as low as $49 / £39 / AU$99 in various sales. As such, if you see it selling at a mega discount, but not as low as previous best prices, you may want to wait until Black Friday or some other time.

Amazon Kindle Black Paper

The mid-range member of the Kindle family is the latest to see an update, with the Kindle Paperwhite (2021) being joined for the first time by a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition.

As such, we don't expect to see a new version of this model any time soon. That is, do not dismiss the sales while waiting for a 2022 edition.

Although it's relatively new, we've seen some decent discounts on Paperwhite devices before, so don't whip out your credit card for a measly 10% discount.

We still see older versions of the Paperwhite being sold on Amazon as well; they are recognizable by having 6-inch screens, not 6,8-inches. If you're looking for a bargain and don't need the latest features, these devices may offer a better deal, if the price is reduced, of course.

Amazon Kindle Oasis

Amazon's high-end Kindle costs a hefty sum compared to its siblings, so it makes sense that you'd want to wait until Prime Day to pick one up at a nice discount.

However, of the three Kindle lines made by Amazon, the Oasis is the one we most expect to receive an update this year. Like the base model, the current generation model launched in 2019; but we expect to see some more premium features on the Oasis models soon, including color screens and wireless charging.

If a new Kindle Oasis comes out later in 2022, we might see it (yes, the most recent version) discounted for Black Friday, and in that hypothetical future, it'd definitely be worth skipping Prime Day and buying. hope. Sin embargo, no podemos estar seguros de que llegue una nueva versión, por lo que sería un riesgo.

If you like the look of the premium Kindle, but don't think you need cutting-edge upgrades that might come with an upgraded model, definitely check out the Oasis Prime Day deals. But if you don't need it soon, it's okay to wait until Black Friday.
