(*6*)Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro got off to a bit of a rocky start, with numerous issues reported, but after a series of software updates, both phones seemed to be out of the woods. However, at least one issue still appears to affect multiple users.
(*6*) Starting in January, an increasing number of people are reporting seeing what appear to be clusters of "dead" or black pixels on their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro displays. These reports appeared on Reddit (opens in a new tab), Twitter (Opens in a new tab), and Google Support Forums (Opens in a new tab), and in most cases, the pixels appear to be around the front of the camera, which makes the cutout appear larger and jagged.
(*6*)Dead pixels clump together, creating an unsightly black hole and (rather like a real black hole) some users claim that it grows over time.

(*6*)At the time of this writing, there does not seem to be a reliable solution to the problem unless the owners send the phone in for repair or replacement. Some users claim that software updates fixed the problem and for some the problem is only present when the phone is in landscape mode while others have it all the time.
(*6*)Rebooting or resetting the phone doesn't seem to help, so while it wouldn't hurt to try these things if you're having this problem, don't get your hopes up. It sounds like your best option is to check that the software is up to date and if it is, and the problem persists, send your phone in for repair.
(*6*)Hopefully, a software update will fix the problem more reliably in the future (if it's a software issue rather than a hardware one), but there's no guarantee this will happen soon, if is that it happens.

(*6*)While issues like this are certainly a cause for concern, the reality is that any phone can have issues, including big-name phones like the Samsung Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13.
(*6*)In fact, a quick Google search will show that both devices have developed issues for some users.
(*6*)The Pixel 6 line seems to have had more than its fair share of issues, but as noted most of these have now been resolved and in most cases it is unclear how widespread the issues were. problems in the first place.
(*6*)This latest bug has been reported by various people on various sites for several months, but it's still a drop in the bucket compared to the number of people who actually have a Pixel 6, so the likelihood that you'll find this problem is probably low.
(*6*)And aside from any issues, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are fantastic phones, with great cameras, slick software, and eye-catching designs. So if you like the look of a Pixel 6, we wouldn't discourage you from buying one because, overall, it's one of our best phones.
