With Black Friday 2022 officially kicking off on November 25, many retailers have already hit the start button on their holiday sales. These deals are usually as good as the ones posted on the big day, so don't feel like you have to wait until Black Friday.
This is backed up by a recent report from Adobe (opens in a new tab) that looked at price changes for holiday shopping in 2021 and found that prices fell sharply in early November, stayed low throughout the month, and rose again in December.

Should you wait for a Black Friday monitor sale?
Black Friday is fast approaching and an important question to ask yourself is: should you wait until the day you buy a monitor? The answer is a bit more complex as monitor prices dropped significantly in November.
If you can wait, then waiting until Black Friday would be a great way to capitalize on a deal that's sure to save you tons of money. You'll also very likely find that you can get more powerful monitors with better specs than what's currently on the market, which is beneficial because better specs mean a longer lasting product.
However, PCs, especially now in this work-from-home economy, are incredibly vital to many households and some people can't afford to wait that long for a monitor. If so, definitely invest in one now, because there are tons of great deals out there, even if they don't coincide with Black Friday price drops.

When will the best Black Friday monitor deals start in 2022?
Black Friday is November 25 this year, and as tradition dictates, we expect to see big sales from time to time. Traditionally the best discounts have been on the day and while this is generally true, recent years have seen an increase in retailers releasing Black Friday prices earlier, for example at the start of Thanksgiving week. Thank you, if not before.
Even before this week, there are many sales in the month leading up to the special day, some as early as October. Based on last year's deals, some of these may be close to or even the same as Black Friday deals and more. And it is a trend that should be repeated this year.
In 2021, many retailers like Dell, Amazon, and Best Buy launched the first Black Friday monitor deals in early November, which have already been repeated so far in November 2022, so be sure to keep an eye out for them.

What specs should I look for when buying a monitor on Black Friday?
One of the biggest things to consider when looking for Black Friday monitor sales is that retailers are trying to push back old inventory. That means you can find what looks like a lot, only to find out later that the monitor is several years old and has outdated specifications. Of course, that doesn't make it useless, as most monitors are still perfectly usable.
Keep in mind that monitors should have at least 1080p resolution, which is the minimum HD resolution, preferably 4k if you can afford it, but 1080p is still perfectly fine. From there, your needs will vary depending on the type of work you need your monitor for.
For example, if you're doing professional work like photography or video editing, you'll need a monitor with color spaces that allow for good color correction. At least as high as DCI-P98 3% color gamut support, as this ensures that any other monitor displaying this professional hardware will see images and video in their proper colors at all levels. Brightness is also a big factor in image quality and color accuracy, with higher numbers being better. 200nits and above is a great starting point.
Meanwhile, for gaming monitors, the two biggest factors besides resolution are refresh rate and response time. For the former, the higher the number, the better, since it represents the number of times per second that the image is refreshed on the screen. Refresh rates of 144 Hz and above are particularly good.
The latter should have as low a number as possible, as it represents the time it takes to change from one color to another, lower numbers meaning a much sharper and clearer image. A 1ms response time is especially good for gaming and that's what you should be looking for.
What about the Black Friday gaming monitor deals?
If you are shopping for a professional monitor, a 3% DCI-P98 color gamut supported by a set of color spaces such as Adobe RGB, sRGB, Rec. 709 are essential to ensure the highest and most accurate color and image quality. For a gaming monitor, having a high refresh rate and low response time is important for a smooth and responsive gaming session.
If you're looking for cheaper priced monitors, be aware that some manufacturers may drop some other specs to bring that price down. For example, one of the cheap monitors on sale last year has below-average sound quality to balance out other high specs like 4k resolution.
