Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti could be coming soon, but Team Green needs a Christmas miracle

Nvidia's RTX 4070 Ti has been listed by an Italian retailer with a release date of January 5.

If true, that means the third Lovelace graphics card is only a month away from hitting shelves, but understandably we should take that leak with a lot of skepticism.

That being said, this confirms the rumor mill's earlier spin that suggested a January 5th on-sale date for the RTX 4070 Ti, so this isn't the first time we've received this prediction.

The retailer in question is Drako, reported by French tech site Cowcotland (opens in a new tab) (via Wccftech (opens in a new tab)), the card listed is an Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF . However, within the last hour, the Italian retailer removed the listing and the link provided no longer works.

Another speculation here from Cowcotland claims that the RTX 4070 Ti will be announced the day before it goes on sale i.e. January 4th. But that doesn't square with the fact that Nvidia has a GeForce event on January 3 at CES 2023, which is sure to be where the new Lovelace GPU will be revealed (if indeed it is).

Analysis: Increasing probability that the RTX 4070 Ti is imminent

It's worth noting that, oddly enough, Drako said "O12G, 16GB GDDR6X" in the product listing title, but under the GPU specs it clearly mentions 12GB of VRAM. Of course, that's the 12GB that was in the canceled lower-tier RTX 4080 that never existed, of which this RTX 4070 Ti is essentially a disguised version, as we've discussed in the past. Presumably the mention of 16 GB was a mistake in the product title (it also said "12G", of course, which means 12 Gigabytes).

The now-defunct product listing didn't provide any further information on specs, and under the number of CUDA cores, the retailer said it would "be announced," so we were still in the dark. Well, not quite in the dark, as the RTX 4070 Ti is rumored to be powered by 7680 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus, along with a 285W TDP.

As for January 5th, it could be the case that the Italian retailer guesses a date, or in other words, it was a placeholder, perhaps picking up on the aforementioned rumor date and using it. We just don't know, but other evidence to suggest the RTX 4070 Ti isn't far behind is a repository of multiple Gigabyte models of the card that was recently discovered.

Also, since this is something of a relaunch of that lower-tier RTX 4080 rotation, or that's certainly the prevailing theory, for obvious reasons, it wouldn't be surprising if everything were in place for a relatively quick release of the 4070 Ti. . We'll see next month...

In the absence of any mention of price, this will obviously be a key element. The hope is that we could see an MSRP of €699 in the US (and pricing in line with that elsewhere), but we're not overly optimistic that this will translate to reality. A more likely price for Nvidia is €749, perhaps even €799, though that should clearly be lower than the canceled RTX 4080 12GB, which was €899 before Team Green "released" the GPU (after a reception less than positive, say).

The danger of the overpricing is that Nvidia will leave the door open for AMD's RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX graphics cards, which are set to launch on December 13, but possibly not in large numbers until the end of the month if rumors on The Team's side Red is right.

With that being the case, these new AMD RDNA 3 GPUs will be going up against the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080, so Nvidia may want to take the opportunity to be a bit more competitively priced and win the season. the good will of the players.

The goodwill that Team Green is still rapidly losing, between the exorbitant prices of third-party custom models of the RTX 4080, and with the RTX 4090, the whole cable melting controversy that really doesn't help Nvidia's cause either - certainly ahora no. Los casos superan los 50.
