A quick update to Microsoft Teams may soon be inescapable after the company released a new update that makes setting up a call easier than ever.
The video conferencing service will soon allow users to stream directly from their desktop to Microsoft Teams Rooms hardware, meaning a formal meeting is no longer necessary.
Instead, users can use the new Teams broadcast feature to wirelessly connect to a Teams room from anywhere in the world.
Microsoft Teams Cast
In its Microsoft 365 roadmap entry, the company says it finds the update ideal for quick ad-hoc sessions that don't require hosting a formal meeting.
The feature will work on the Windows and Mac versions of the Teams desktop client, and users will be able to cast their screen and stream content stored locally on their computer or accessed through Office 365.
The feature is still listed as "in development," but Microsoft has listed a general availability date of March 2022, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. The tool will be generally available to desktop users around the world when it is released.
The news is the latest example of Microsoft Teams working in harmony with other services and products to improve efficiency.
Microsoft recently revealed that users will soon be able to add apps designed for Microsoft Teams on Office.com and the Office app for Windows, meaning there's no longer a need to switch platforms to use specific apps.
The company is also working on a new feature that will allow users to run apps designed for Microsoft Teams in its Outlook email service.
The move should make online collaboration and communication a much smoother and more seamless experience, meaning users shouldn't have to constantly switch between Teams and Outlook to stay on top of their work.
Microsoft Teams continues to go from strength to strength, with the company's latest figures showing the service now has more than 270 million monthly active users.
