Netflix and Nickelodeon sign multi-year television and television deal

As part of what appears to be an effort to fight the threat from Disney Plus, Netflix has signed a multi-year deal with the children's entertainment giants Nickelodeon that will bring many animated movies and original TV shows to the service. streaming

The deal is an extension of Netflix's existing partnership with Nickelodeon, which has produced television specials such as Modern Life: Static Cling (pictured) and Invader Zim: Rocko's Enter the Florpus. The couple also have two other promotions at Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the horizon.

According to Netflix's announcement, the expanded deal will bring content based on Nickelodeon's new and existing intellectual property. Citing unidentified sources, The New York Times reported that one of these projects would be a "music-based" spinoff from SpongeBob SquarePants, centered on the character of Squidward.

The deal, estimated at € 200 million by NYT sources, appears to be a clear response to the arrival this week of the streaming service Disney Plus, which already has 10 million subscribers in just 24 hours.

Of course, it will take a lot more subscribers than Netflix to bring it along. According to Statista, the US streaming giant currently had 158,3 million paying subscribers as of October 2019.
