Netflix gives away a free fantasy adventure game

Beloved indie adventure game Oxenfree is now available via Netflix, as the streaming platform beefs up its fledgling gaming wing.

One of the best indie games, the mystery thriller is free to download for all Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android. You can find Oxenfree: Netflix Edition on the Google Play Store (Opens in a new tab) and App Store (Opens in a new tab).

Originally released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016, Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller that follows a group of teenagers as they explore a mysterious island. Little by little you will discover its secrets and creepy ghostly happenings through a coming-of-age story that shares more than a few similarities with Stranger Things.

"You play as Alex, a 16-year-old teenager who is introduced to her new stepbrother, and while meeting friends on a secluded beach, you accidentally open a rift in time, releasing spirits that threaten your very existence," said the lead director. author of Oxenfree. Adam Hines in a press release.

"Gameplay is all about exploration and conversation, as you juggle supernatural and personal relationships within your high school clique."

Oxenfree is just the latest standout indie game to hit Netflix. In June, the streaming giant added the beloved turn-based tactical strategy game Into the Breach, and brought action-RPG shopping game Moonlighter to the platform in May. The addition of Oxenfree comes as no surprise, given that Netflix acquired the game's developer, Night School Studios, in September of last year.

More games are coming to Netflix in the future. Acclaimed point-and-click adventure game Kentucky Route Zero will be added at a later date, along with original TV spin-offs Narcos: Cartel Wars and Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales.

The streaming giant has been betting big on mobile games for the past few months, though it seems like no one is playing them.
