Waiting endlessly for other people to join your Microsoft Teams meeting could soon be a lot less tedious thanks to a new update coming soon.
The video conferencing service is working on a feature that will automatically end what it calls "stale" Microsoft Teams meetings.
This should mean the end of the annoying occurrence when users show up for a meeting that has already been canceled or postponed, or simply show up at the wrong date or time.
End of Microsoft Teams meeting
In its official Microsoft 365 roadmap entry (opens in a new tab), the company notes that if a user is the only attendee in a meeting that has been marked "stale" (meaning no one else accepted the invitation, or they said they would join), they will see a dialog box telling them to end the call or dismiss the notification.
If no action is taken, the meeting will end automatically.
The post notes that the feature is still "in development" but has an expected release date of August 2022, which means users shouldn't wait too long.
Upon release, it will be available to Microsoft Teams users on the web, desktop, and Mac, with no apparent need for admin permissions or changes.
This feature is the latest in a long line of updates to Microsoft Teams as the platform looks to ensure its service remains a seamless experience.
The company recently revealed that it will be adding a number of core games to Microsoft Teams to help users pass the time while waiting for a call to start.
Several titles from the company's Casual Games platform are expected to be part of the move, aiming to help kill a few minutes, say, if you're waiting for someone to join the call with a quick Connect 4 replay.
The company also outlined plans to soon introduce 3D avatars alongside more immersive Microsoft Teams meetings in the so-called "metaverse."
