Samsung's latest deal makes the Z Fold 3 cheaper than the Galaxy S22

We're only two months away from the probable launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it almost seems like Samsung doesn't want you to buy this phone, as it just launched a very tempting Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 deal.

Right now, you can get up to €1,100 in trade-in credit (opens in a new tab) when you trade in another phone for the price of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. That's more than a standard maximum of €535, and the total quantity is available even if your old device has a broken screen.

With this trade-in amount, you can take the starting price of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 from €1,799.99 to just €699.99. So you're getting one of the most expensive phones on the planet for less than half the price, and for less than a Samsung Galaxy S22.

This trade-in value is only available if you trade in a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 for it, but as 9to5Google (opens in a new tab) points out, this phone is now selling second-hand for around €700-800. So in theory you could even buy one and then trade it in for more than it costs.

If you don't have a Z Fold 2, you can still get decent trade-in values, with the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for example at €1,025, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max at €655 (with the iPhone 13 Pro Max oddly enough you brings €495 less). There are plenty of other devices that Samsung will also let you trade in for a discount.

Of course, as you've probably guessed from all the dollar signs, this offer is only available in the United States. Although trade-ins are offered elsewhere, they are at Samsung's standard rates and broken screens will cut into the money you get.

If you're specifically looking for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and have a phone with decent trade-in value, then this deal is probably worth taking advantage of as it brings the price down to a much more palatable level, but there are a few things to consider first. .

For one, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to launch very soon, with a leak pointing to August 10. This phone is likely to be a substantial upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 3, so if you want Samsung's best foldable, it's worth the wait.

Even if you don't want to spend a lot on the Fold 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will likely be significantly discounted once this phone arrives. In fact, it's often already on sale at a discount in many stores, and prices will only drop once it's no longer the latest model.

Samsung's own store sells the Z Fold 3 at full price, so while trade-ins bring the cost down considerably, it starts higher if you buy it directly from Samsung.

So this deal, while worthwhile for many people, is not as impressive as it seems at first glance. That said, the fact that the price isn't reduced by a cracked screen is nice to see and might be a no-brainer if you're desperate to replace your broken phone.
