While we knew God of War Ragnarok would be coming from the post-credits scene at the end of 2018's God of War, Sony has been talking about the release date for years.

No more, though, as the publisher has finally announced when we'll be able to have frozen fingers in the sequel to the Nordic saga.

In a somewhat low-key announcement, opting not to share the news as part of a State of Play broadcast, developer Sony Santa Monica tweeted (opens in a new tab) an image revealing that God of War's release date Ragnarok is on November 9. , 2022.

There was a short new trailer associated with the news, which you can check out below.

The new trailer doesn't reveal much we haven't seen before. Kratos and his son Atreus are back to battle the gods and monsters of Norse mythology, this time side by side with the human plug, Thor.

Unsurprisingly, the cutscenes shown in the trailer look a lot like what we've played in previous games. Kratos and Atreus collide with the undead Draugr, felling them with an ax and arrow. However, we do get a glimpse of what is sure to be a huge boss battle in Ragnarok, the giant wolf Fenrir.

It will be fascinating to see how Sony Santa Monica transforms Fenrir into God of War Ragnarok, the giant wolf is the son of Loki. Which, spoilers, if you haven't played God of War (2018), it's Atreus. Perhaps in this version of the myth, the wolf has a new genesis, or perhaps we see Atreus give birth to a cub. Although that seems like a brave move on Sony's part.

While Sony didn't reveal much more about God of War Ragnarok aside from its release date, it did talk more about the two Collector's Editions that will be available for pre-order on July 15.

If you pre-order God of War Ragnarok, your copy of the game will come with two items: Kratos Risen Snow Armor and Atreus Risen Snow Tunic, the latter being a cosmetic item.
