Korea Gets Good Samsung/Starbucks Collaboration, And We Want It Too

Never shy of brand collaborations, Samsung is teaming up with Starbucks — no, not the Battlestar Galactica character — to launch a new line of phone cases and earphones.

Made from an "eco-friendly material," the phone cases will be for the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra, as reported by 9to5Google (opens in a new tab) which translated the original post into Korean (opens in a new eyelash ). The cases reflect the Starbucks artistic style inspired by the corporate brand. Some items will be for certain phone models as they take their respective hardware into account.

The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will share two cases inspired by the aprons used by baristas. Yes truly. One will have a simple Starbucks logo, while the other will have a tagline that reads "Count the stars in your galaxy." the S22 Ultra will have two cases with additional holes for the phone's camera lenses. Both have a backstrap: one will be a caricature of the company logo while the other will have a fake receipt.

In addition to the phone cases, Samsung and Starbucks have designed two cases for the Galaxy Buds 2. The first is a fairly simple green case with the Starbucks logo printed on the cover. The second case is much more adorable: it looks like a cup of coffee with latte art.

It is unknown if the collaboration will ever be released outside of South Korea. The line will launch on June 28 through Starbucks' Naver store (opens in a new tab). 9to5Google advises that delivery will be limited, so if you have a way to ship them, be sure to act quickly.

We asked Samsung if there's a chance of the range launching internationally and what exactly "eco material" is, but didn't get an answer to any of our other questions. It's worth mentioning that the S22 Ultra has similar-looking silicone cases (opens in a new tab) with a strap on the back. This silicone material has been qualified as environmentally friendly.

Limited collaborations

As mentioned above, Samsung has a history of launching playful collaborations. For example, in May, Samsung released a special edition charging case for the Galaxy Buds 2 in the shape of a Poké Ball. The sad truth is that many of these collaborations do not leave South Korea.

Some are going global like last year's Galaxy Watch4 collaboration (opens in a new tab) with luxury brand Maison Kitsuné and 20's Galaxy S2020 Plus BTS phone. But for some reason, in 2022, Samsung was stingier in launching collaborations abroad.

Whatever your reasoning, we're hoping Samsung releases the cute coffee case outside of South Korea. If you're interested in other cool collaborations, we wrote about China getting a Naruto-style phone.
