iPhone 14 Pro Max: Here's everything we know so far

iPhone 14 Pro Max: here's everything we know so far

The iPhone 14 lineup is fast approaching, and of the four rumored phones, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to be the best, most expensive, and possibly the most interesting.

Speaking of a significantly changed design, more notch updates, and large cameras, among other improvements, there's a lot to get excited about here. In fact, if all the promising leaks happen, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could be Apple's most exciting update in years.

Below, we'll explain everything we've heard about this great phone so far, including the likely release date and price. We'll also be adding to this article whenever we hear something new, so check back soon to stay on the Pro Max cycle.

cut to hunt

iPhone 14 Pro Max release date and price

Our best estimate of when the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the rest of the iPhone 14 lineup, will be announced is September 13.

So far only one source has it, so we'd take it with a grain of salt, but no other specific date has been announced and September 13 would make a lot of sense, because in recent years Apple has always announced new iPhones. mid-September, and usually on a Tuesday, September 13.

It will not be then when you can get your hands on the phone; expect it to ship around 10 days later, probably on Friday 23rd September.

However, while those dates seem likely, there's a chance they're wrong, especially as lockdowns in China have apparently pushed production back a few weeks. Although apparently Apple aims to return in time.

As for the price, one source suggests that we could be looking at prices similar to the iPhone 13 lineup, which would mean a starting price of around €1099 / £1049 / AU$1849 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

However, another source claims that the upcoming phone will start at €1199 (around £955 / AU$1665), that's €100 (around £80 / AU$140) more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. A price increase would certainly be believable given the number of upgrades expected on this phone.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Design

The iPhone 14 Pro Max may not look like any previous iPhone as Apple ditches the notch. We've heard this from multiple sources, the oldest dating back to September and including the render you can see below.

An unofficial render showing the possible design of the iPhone 14 Pro Max

This image indicates that there is a small camera cutout instead of the notch, like many Android phones. There's also a lot less rear camera bump here, and the phone has apparently been made thicker to achieve this.

The source adds that the frame is apparently titanium rather than stainless steel, something we've heard more than once.

This original leak comes from Jon Prosser, but several other high-profile leakers such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman have also claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will not have a notch.

However, some of the details in the render above now appear to be incorrect, as instead of having a single camera cutout, multiple sources now suggest the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have two: a small one and a larger one. one in pill form next to it. You can see what it would look like in a leaked schematic and leaked CAD (computer-aided design) renderings below.

One of these renders also shows a large rear camera bump, and this could be more accurate, as a leaked schematic suggests the rear camera block will actually be larger than on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, not smaller. than the initial leak mentioned above.

iPhone 14 Pro Max screen

While the iPhone 14 Pro Max looks like a great upgrade in many ways, its display may not be one of them. Ross Young, a backer with a good track record, says it will have a 6.68-inch, 1284 x 2778 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 458 pixels per inch. These specifications would make it identical to the screen of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

We also heard from Ming-Chi Kuo that the upcoming phone will have a 6,7-inch screen and we don't expect Apple to change the size as it's not something it does often.

Some display details such as brightness may still change, but so far it looks a lot like the iPhone 13 Pro Max display. Except, of course, this time there probably won't be a notch sticking out of the top.

IPhone 14 Pro Max Camera

The camera looks set for a big upgrade on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, as instead of its predecessor's 12MP (wide) main sensor, this phone would get a 48MP one. This is according to respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has made this claim several times, but another analyst has also echoed this claim.

Apparently, this camera would be capable of recording 8K video (compared to 4K on the iPhone 13 Pro Max) and would be joined by two other cameras. We've heard less about these other two, but they could be the same as before, namely a 12MP ultra-wide and a 12MP telephoto snapper that offers 3x optical zoom.

There has been talk of a 5x optical zoom capable periscope camera, but the current consensus seems to be that it won't land until the iPhone 15 lineup next year.

Specifications and features of the iPhone 14 Pro Max

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is said to have an A16 Bionic chipset, which is no surprise since the current model has an A15 Bionic.

How upgradable this new chipset is is less clear. While some sources suggest it could be made in a 4nm or even 3nm process, compared to 5nm on the A15 Bionic, the most recent leak says it's still at 5nm.

Smaller numbers are better here and a move to a smaller number would generally suggest a significant increase in power and/or efficiency, but even if you stick to 5nm you're sure to see improvements.

RAM, meanwhile, could stay at 6GB or increase to 8GB, depending on who you ask. We've heard the 6GB claim more than once, so it seems more likely at this point.

However, the storage could be significantly improved, potentially reaching a whopping 2TB, double what you can get in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Other cambio possible pero menos probable es el uso de una eSIM en lugar de una tarjeta SIM física. Current iPhones have both, and if Apple takes that step, there will likely also be versions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max that support physical SIM cards, as not all mobile networks even support eSIMs. for the moment.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Battery

The iPhone 14 Pro Max could have a larger battery than its predecessor according to a source, although its size is unclear. It's a promising statement, though, as the iPhone 13 Pro Max already has excellent battery life.

In the area of unlikely features, there have been rumors of a switch from Lightning to USB-C. It will probably happen eventually, especially now that the EU has made it a requirement from 2024, but we doubt it will happen in the iPhone 14 range.

There's also been talk of a portless iPhone at some point in the future that only supports wireless charging, but it doesn't seem likely that Apple will go that far with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
