GTA 5 on PS5 is about to skyrocket in price

The price of GTA 5 on PS5 is about to skyrocket as the PlayStation exclusive price drop comes to an end.(*5*)

GTA 5 released on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S earlier this year at a "special introductory price" (opens in a new tab), temporarily reducing much of its price. Xbox fans were able to get the latest version of Rockstar's beloved crime at half price: £19.99 / £17.49 / AU$29.97 at 75% off, bringing the game down to just £9.99 / £8.75 / AU$14.99. (*5*)

Also, if you are a PS5 player who has played GTA 5 multiplayer on PS4 before, you can claim the next-gen version of GTA Online for free. This offer is not available to Xbox owners, but they were able to choose the standalone multiplayer component for half price.(*5*)

That's all about to change, though, as the post-launch discount period will only be in effect until June 14. After that date, GTA 5 will return to its full price on both consoles of €39,99 / £34,99 / AU$59,95. GTA Online will join it, up to $19.99 / $17.99 / AU$30.95, and will no longer be free for PS5 players.(*5*)

If you have the latest Sony hardware and want to take advantage of the discount, you'll need to purchase GTA 5 from the PS Store directly through your console; you cannot use the PS Online Store to purchase the game at a discount. Unfortunately, that means those who don't already own a PS5 can't get the game for cheap to keep for themselves later.(*5*)

Xbox gamers, however, can purchase the Xbox Series X|S version through the Xbox online store.(*5*)

Is the next generation of GTA 5 worth it?

This is the second time that GTA 5 has been ported to a new generation of consoles. Is it really worth jumping into a game released nearly a decade ago? Sure, if you can get it for the right price, and this post-launch discount works perfectly.(*5*)

The next-gen version comes with a host of enhanced graphics options and three modes to suit your platform. The highest of these, Fidelity, offers ray tracing and 4K resolutions, though it can only go as high as 30 frames per second. Performance mode trades fancy light reflections for a cap of 60fps while preserving Ultra-HD resolutions, and Performance RT maintains 60fps with ray tracing, but only upscaled 4K images.(*5*)

The graphical improvements are definitely noticeable, and during our time with the game we were particularly impressed with its transformative lighting engine and faster load times. Not to mention new PS5-specific features that take advantage of DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, making Los Santos even more engaging.(*5*)

All this for €10 is not bad at all. If you think you'll jump into Rockstar's acclaimed open-world shooter at some point and you already have a next-gen console to play, then you might as well jump into the game now. Better take advantage of the discount while you can.(*5*)
