Google Stadia will soon be available on many more phones

Currently, Google Stadia only works on a limited number of smartphones, including the newer Pixel models, but that may be about to change. Code detected in the latest Stadia Android app suggests that support for devices that aren't "certified" is coming. As 9to5Google found out, the change would mean you could at least try Stadia on any Android phone you want, even if Google hasn't specifically approved it. The new functionality would probably be marked as experimental. While Stadia also works on TVs and Chromecast Ultra, as well as Google Chrome on computers, letting more phones into the fold would certainly increase the game streaming service's appeal, and likely get more subscribers on board. Google Stadia is still a work in progress to some degree, with new features and new games coming out regularly. A few weeks ago, for example, we saw support for wireless controllers added to Stadia on PC.

Soon maybe

A more relaxed approach to making Stadia playable on mobile isn't the only change 9to5Google has spotted, but it should be noted that there's no guarantee these hidden features will ever become official. The app's latest teardown reveals more hints of a "touchpad" so you can play on a phone without a separate controller, which would certainly make it easier to switch to your phone for a quick gaming session without additional hardware. There are also hints that Stadia's voice chat feature will finally appear on Android, a possible update that has been around for a while now. Of course, adding chat is a bit trickier on small devices. Finally, the code mentions a lot of promotions and sales events, so it seems that Google will spend a lot of time advertising the platform in the coming months. One possible future possibility is being able to play a game for free over a weekend.
