Godzilla vs Kong: who won overall?

Godzilla vs. Kong (Image credit: Warner Bros) That's a great question to begin with, but it's best explained now to provide more context for the section below. For those unfamiliar, director Adam Wingard told IGN that there will only be one winner in the duo's fight. "He's the one who makes the decisions," he said. "You don't have to debate it anymore. You see this movie. It's Godzilla, it's King Kong. They fight... and one wins, and that's it." Godzilla and Kong only crash twice in this movie, which is a bit disappointing for a movie touting this as the ultimate showdown. Either way, despite how the final scenes of the movie play out, more than that later on, there's only one clear winner. It's Godzilla. Because? Well, because the prehistoric sea monster wins both fights. In the first, Godzilla almost drowns Kong. But for the US Navy depth charge dam, it would have been successful as well. Kong returns to his ship and is clearly in no condition to continue fighting. The US Marine entourage even shuts down their engines, lights, and weapons to make Godzilla believe that he has won, so he won't come back and finish off Kong. In the second fight, Godzilla defeats Kong again. Of course, this fight is more balanced thanks to Kong's intelligence and his Hollow Earth axe, but Godzilla still outclasses him. It is the latter who tears Kong apart with his sharp claws and stomps on his chest to finally end the contest. Once again, without the intervention of humanity to help Kong in his hour of need, he would not have survived. It's Dr. Lind who uses one of Apex Cybernetics' HEAV ships to reboot Kong's heart and allows him to help Godzilla defeat the film's true antagonist, which we'll cover next. At the end of the film, there is a grudging respect between the two. In our minds, however, it's obvious that Godzilla is the ultimate monster in the MonsterVerse no matter what Kong or the fans say about him.

Godzilla vs Kong: how does the movie end?

Godzilla vs. Kong (Image credit: Warner Bros.) Adam Wingard's film may have been heralded as a titanic showdown between the titular pair, but they're not the only juggernaut in the film. As it turns out, some sections of humanity haven't learned their lesson from Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, or Godzilla: King of the Monsters. What have they done now? Well, they made a robotic version of Godzilla. You read correctly. Through a combination of cybernetics, one of King Ghidorah's skulls, Apex Cybernetics, and Hollow Earth energy, Apex Cybernetics, the film's antagonistic company, created Mechagodzilla. If you want an introduction to who or what Mechagodzilla is, you can find more information in our how-to article on Mechagodzilla. If you only want answers for the end of the movie, keep reading. Ultimately, Apex Cybernetics created Mechagodzilla so that humanity would have a way to fight Godzilla if he ever turned on them. It's a dumb idea on his part, considering that Godzilla has left humanity alone since the end of King of the Monsters, but there's always someone looking to take advantage of a situation. In order to function properly, Mechagodzilla requires a greater power source than the Apex can provide. In short, they are stealing energy from the Hollow Earth to power their creation, and unsurprisingly, things go horribly wrong. Mechagodzilla becomes sentient, thanks to a combination of the Hollow Earth power source and King Ghidorah's lingering consciousness, and begins leveling Apex Cybernetics' Hong Kong base. Godzilla, having just beaten Kong, finally meets his match in the ensuing battle. Powered by the energy of the Hollow Earth and the fury of King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla immediately takes over his namesake. Godzilla doesn't stand a chance against his arsenal of weapons, waves of Hollow Earth energy, and metallic shell, so it's no surprise to see Mechagodzilla defeat his counterpart. However, all is not lost. As we mentioned in the previous section, Kong joins the fight after Jia, the girl Kong has a trusting relationship with, convinces him that Godzilla is not his enemy. Saving Godzilla from certain death, Kong and his former opponent put their differences aside and teamed up to defeat Mechagodzilla. After a thrilling back-and-forth clash, Godzilla overloads Kong's ax with his nuclear blast and Kong cuts off Mchagodzilla's tail. Another swing with the ax and his right arm falls to the ground; oil leaking from the wound in his shoulder. With Mechagodzilla on his back, Kong continues his assault. A chest swing is followed by the amputation of Mechagodzilla's left arm and right leg, causing him to fall to the ground. Mechagodzilla prepares to unleash a nuclear blast attack, but is stopped by another ax swing from Kong. Kong leaps onto his foe's fallen body, ripping open its head and upper spine, finally ending Mechagodzilla's reign of terror. Kong, exhausted, falls to the ground. As humanity celebrates Kong's victory, Godzilla stands up and walks over to the giant ape. Kong grabs his ax and prepares for another fight. To his surprise, Godzilla silently acknowledges that Kong saved his life and appears to offer him respect. In response, Kong drops his ax to defuse the situation. With the pair knowing where they are, Godzilla swims into the Pacific Ocean. Kong, along with Jia, Dr. Lind and dr.

Godzilla vs Kong: will there be another movie?

godzilla vs. kong (Image credit: Warner Bros.) It's hard to say. Godzilla vs. Kong's Ending Certainly Leaves the Door Open for Movies In solitary for the couple, but Wingard himself says that any sequels will be dictated by audience demand. Speaking to DreadCentral ahead of the film's release, Wingard said that the MonsterVerse is "at a crossroads now. It's really to the point where audiences have to go ahead and vote for more of this stuff. If this movie is a success, obviously they will keep moving forward." If there are going to be any sequels, they will likely take place in the Hollow Earth. There's still a lot we don't know about this underworld where Titans are supposed to be born. Plus, exploring this world would ensure there isn't another repeat of the Warner Bros. formula of ``titans fighting for Earth's fury''. Hollow Earth gives them creative license to represent Hollow Earth however they see fit, showing Kong to face threats in his new kingdom. As of now, Kong and Godzilla have gone their separate ways, and it's unclear if we'll see them again or the MonsterVerse. It is up to the world public to decide if there are future installments. Godzilla vs Kong is available now on HBO Max and in theaters in the United States, as well as theaters in other parts of the world.
