Get cheap Disney Plus before its massive price hike tomorrow

The price of Disney Plus will increase by almost 40% on December 8, and this is your final warning to save big on your subscription before it happens.

Following in the footsteps of other major streaming services like Netflix, Disney Plus will gain an ad-supported tier on December 8, and when it does, the price of the ad-free version will drop from $7.99 per month to $10.99 per month. (an increase of 37,5%). The new ad-supported tier will be introduced at the current service price of €7.99 per month.

But if you act fast, you can lock in a year of Disney Plus for even less than either of these options. Sign up for a one-year Disney Plus subscription by December 8 and you can get 12 months of service for $79.99; the only drawback is that you have to pay in full upfront. In exchange for committing to a year of Disney Plus, you'll buy your subscription for €6.67 per month, a massive discount from what it will soon cost.

What is Disney Plus with ads?

Thankfully, the new ad-supported level of Disney Plus isn't as bad as many of us feared. Those of you who don't want to commit to a one-year subscription but also want to stay subscribed for just €7.99 per month, shouldn't worry too much about its introduction. According to a revenue call from earlier this year, at launch, Disney Plus's ad-supported tier will limit ads to just four minutes per hour of content; In addition, the Service will not display any advertising in Content viewed through the Platform's child-friendly user profiles.

By comparison, that four-minute limit is the same for the ad-supported tiers of Netflix and HBO Max, but less than Disney's other streaming service, Hulu, which airs up to 12 minutes of advertising per hour of content. It's also less than cable TV, which typically bombards viewers with around 20 minutes of commercials per hour of content.

It is not yet clear if there will be more restrictions for ad-supported users. Netflix has admitted that some movies and TV shows will be exclusive to the ad-free version of the service at first, and HBO Max's ad-supported tier has also limited some content to its ad-free tier.

That said, following reports that Disney has imposed a hiring freeze and that the company's financial woes could lead to the cancellation of shows like Spider-Man: Freshman Year (opens in a new tab), we hope Disney wants their experiment with advertising to be a success. We wouldn't be surprised if Disney tried to make its service as attractive as possible to convince people to sign up with Disney Plus instead of a rival.
