Chris Hemsworth is no stranger to the challenges of getting fit like a god, but the Thor star's workout regimen for his upcoming Netflix movie looks even more ridiculous than usual.

While promoting Hemsworth's new Disney Plus series Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, in a recent interview with TechRadar, sports scientist and ultra-marathon swimmer Ross Edgley gave insight into the actor's "raunchy" physical training for Extraction 2, which is set to premiere this week. programmed. on Netflix in 2023.

"When I was lucky enough to be on the set of Thor," Edgley told us, "Chris was doing a 12-hour shooting day, and then at the end, he knew he had to do his conditioning on the rope." [for Limitless], then he would just start disappearing in a string. But he did something like four movies in a year, I think it was Extraction [2] Thor: Love and Thunder, Spiderhead and [one other]. His work capacity was so great.

"He's getting fat and he's eating eight meals a day for Thor, and then everyone's like, 'Oh my gosh, we need you to bend over for extraction.' [2]because this character is a bit more [athletic].' So he stopped eating so much and then started running half marathons to lose weight. That would put most people in bed. He was just obscene ».

Quick diet changes and daily half marathons? Maybe that's the advice our fitness and wellness editor, Matt Evans, should consider for his own marathon preparations (just kidding, Matt, save yourself!).

Even Edgley, who holds several fitness-related world records, including being the first man in history to walk the full circumference of Great Britain (2860 km) in just 157 days, found Hemsworth's extreme commitment in his inspiring roles. cinematic.

"For me as an athlete, I'm very used to periodizing my training," Edgley explained. "I have an event. There is a recovery mesocycle. Everything is meticulously planned. And then I see Chris doing 12-hour movie days and still training to climb ropes. [and everything else]. He got me thinking outside of the bubble that is strength and conditioning. It's one thing I took away [from filming Limitless with Chris]: his work ethic."

As the name suggests, Extraction 2 is a direct sequel to Sam Hargrave's 2020 Netflix original film, and will see Hemsworth's seemingly indestructible hero Tyler Rake return for another high-stakes (and invariably globe-trotting) special-ops mission. . .

Not much is known about the film's premise beyond Netflix's similar official synopsis, but the streamer did share a behind-the-scenes trailer for Extraction 2 back in September:

As mentioned, Extraction 2 is expected to release in 2023, but no seasonal window has been provided yet. Its predecessor, one of the best movies on Netflix at the time, was released in April 2020, so it's possible Netflix will go the symmetrical approach and remove Extraction 2 in April 2023, but that's just speculation on our part. part.

Either way, we'll be reporting on Extraction 2 and other new Netflix movies in the coming months, so keep an eye on TechRadar for the latest news.
