Is it black friday today? When to start shopping for serious deals, and more

We've all seen the ads for Black Friday 2022. The weather is getting colder. As we head towards the end of November and come to the end of the work week, it's a valid question: is today Black Friday?

The short answer is no. Black Friday proper doesn't officially start until November 25, the next Friday.

But in many ways, Black Friday has begun. There's already a huge influx of Black Friday deals, and the annual sale event is in full swing at several major retailers.

Today, a week before Black Friday, marks our entry into the high season of discounts. Before, the best deals of the year appeared on Black Friday itself, but this is no longer the case. Last year, most of the biggest deals launched in the seven days leading up to Black Friday, then remained relatively static as we transitioned from Black Friday weekend to Cyber Monday.

In fact, there were very few new deals on many major product categories on any shopping day last year, and some of the best deals from earlier in the month haven't returned. And it's a trend we hope to see again this year.

So far, there are many signs there. We've already seen a slew of TVs, electronics, and home goods discounted to their all-time low prices. Meanwhile, Black Friday week officially kicked off this morning at Amazon UK, with the launch of the retailer's 10-day Black Friday event (opens in a new tab). And most of the big retailers in the US launched their respective deals a few weeks ago: we rounded up the biggest deals from the Walmart Black Friday sale, plus the best discounts from the Best Buy Black Friday sale, throughout November. - and we have seen the offers improve.

As of today, therefore, our advice is to keep your eyes peeled. We're expecting to see some serious Black Friday deals from now on, so if you see a big saving on a product in front of you in the next few days, we'd recommend grabbing it (unless our advice, below, says otherwise for that particular product category). The price may drop a bit more, but it probably won't be much, and it's more likely to avoid some of the expected delivery delays next week.

When is Black Friday 2022?

Black Friday proper falls on Friday, November 25 of this year. However, major retailers often upload their respective Black Friday sales at the beginning of the month, so it's easy to miss when the day actually happens.

Should we wait until Black Friday for the best deals?

Generally speaking, no: we think that many of the deals that will be released from now on will be good enough to be considered prime Black Friday discounts. However, this school of thought does not necessarily apply to all product categories.

Last year, for example, we saw TV prices drop even more during Black Friday and Cyber Monday itself. However, IT deals were relatively flat during the last weeks of November.

Meanwhile, deals on household products are likely to be mixed. Pricey appliances like Nespresso coffeemakers and Dyson vacuums have room for discounts to get better in the days ahead. We expect these deals to appear closer to Black Friday. However, for mid-range products, there are plenty of top-tier savings right now.

We analyze the situation for each product category in our dedicated Black Friday hubs, so check back regularly for the best deals of the day.
