The mysterious OnePlus phone will be unveiled in January

It seems OnePlus has big plans for its smartphones, as evidenced by the range of excellent phones it offered in 2019, but also by the fact that it has a mysterious concept phone in the works, ready to be unveiled in early January 2020.

This has been confirmed by OnePlus as the company has confirmed that it will be hosting its own event at CES 2020, an annual tech trade show in Las Vegas in January, where it is expected to debut the 'OnePlus One Concept'.

The announcement at this CES event, and the concept phone, tie in with the company celebrating its sixth anniversary on December 17.

A concept phone is a phone that a company shows off that it doesn’t intend to release on a large scale, or doesn’t, but is instead used to get a jump start on the technology it’s working on. Xiaomi had the Mi Mix Alpha, TCL had its Dragonhinge, and Oppo recently showed off a prototype of an unnamed device – none of these will be widely available, but they all show off tons of cool new tech nonetheless.

What do we know about the OnePlus concept phone?

Unfortunately, we don't know much about the phone, but that's partly the point. OnePlus is probably hoping to impress us with a load of new and unexpected tech. We do know, however, that this is a phone, as the company explicitly calls it, so people expecting a smartwatch or new true wireless earbuds are going to be disappointed.

We can, however, tell a lot about the phone's context. As OnePlus says in its press release, the name "Concept One" implies that there will be a Concept Two and so on, suggesting that the company has plans for a series of these prototype handsets.

OnePlus describes the phone as más suave, más rápido '', lo que probablemente se refiere a un conjunto de chips llamativo y una alta frecuencia de actualización para la pantalla, pero la compañía también usa el # 39; adjetivo 'no load'. What does that mean?

Of course, this is extremely open to interpretation, but it could indicate that the device is foldable. The Motorola Razr is a foldable phone that closes like a case, and you could call it "burden-free" because it becomes so much smaller and easier to store away. We'll have to wait to be sure, but OnePlus also uses the phrase "alternative design approach," which supports this idea.

Another piece of evidence, as tangential as it is? The launch event is taking place at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, probably the most collapsible hotel in town.

We're not sure when the OnePlus CES 2020 event will take place, as the company reports it will run from 'January 7-10, 2020, 10am-5pm', which essentially corresponds to the runtime of the Las Vegas tech show. OnePlus will likely show off the phone at first, then people at the show will get to try it out over the remaining days.

TechRadar will be on the ground at CES 2020 to report on all the tech news and reveals, and you can be sure we'll be reviewing the OnePlus Concept One, so stay tuned for everything you need to know.
