The Witcher has added some pretty significant star power to its Season 3 ranks, with actors from Marvel's Shang-Chi and Prime Video's Upload among four new cast members.
Revealed via the official Witcher Twitter account, the casting ranks for the hit Netflix show have risen with the additions of Shang-Chi star Meng'er Zhang and Upload lead actor Robbie Amell.
The duo are also joined by Hugh Skinner (Fleabag) and Christelle Elwin (Bloods) as part of The Witcher season 3, which recently began filming in Croatia and the UK.
Check out the casting confirmation in the tweet below:

Zhang, who played Shang-Chi's estranged sister Xu Xialing in the 2021 Marvel film, is set to play Milva, a fierce and skilled human hunter and archer who is sure to dish out plenty of punishment with the arrival of the third season. from the series. A Netflix Tudum article mentions that Milva was "adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest," which viewers may remember from The Witcher season 1. Will we see the dryads again in season 3? Time will tell.
Amell, who recently appeared in season 2 of Upload and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, will take on the role of Gallatin. Described in the Netflix article Tudum as a "born fighter," Gallatin will lead a band of guerrilla fighters called the Scoia'tael, who fight on behalf of the evil Nilfgaardian Empire. He expects him to cross paths with Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in Season 3.
Skinner will play Radovid, the younger brother of King Vizimir of Redania who works his way into the inner circle of Redanian intelligence. He is portrayed as a charming but aloof (and sometimes drunk) individual who has a steady political hand.
Finally, Elwin will play a character named Mistle, a resourceful member of a gang of teenage misfits called the Rats. As Robin Hood, Mistle and his crew steal from the rich and give to the poor (and themselves). However, according to Netflix Tudum, a "chance encounter" will change the trajectory of his life. From what we know of Andrzej Sapkowski's series of novels, something tells us that he will have something to do with Ciri...
There is no official release date for The Witcher season 3 yet, so it will be some time before we see these characters on our screens. But, since principal photography will begin in late March, hopefully the wait won't be too long.
Analysis: a time of contempt, indeed

If there was any doubt as to which Witcher novel the next installment in the series would be based on, these casting announcements have confirmed which of Sapkowski's books it will be based on.
Showrunner Lauren Hissrich previously (and exclusively) told TechRadar that The Witcher season 3 would be based on Time of Contempt, the second novel in Sapkowski's Witcher series of novels. Since this has always been the plan for the show's third season, it might seem strange to us to say that these new cast members openly reveal that season 3 will be based on Time of Contemp.
However, Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher took a number of creative liberties with its source material, something some fans have criticized in recent months. So there was always the possibility that season 3 would be based on Time of Contemp, but it wouldn't necessarily stick strictly to what happens in the novel.
However, the additions of this quartet of actors, and the characters they'll be playing, seem to suggest that The Witcher season 3 will align closely with Time of Contempt. The Gallatin of Amell (and the Scoia'tael in general) have an important role to play in Time of Contempt. Meanwhile, in Sapkowski's novel, Geralt inadvertently ends up visiting Brokilin Forest (Milva's home) and Mistle meets Ciri along with her fellow rats. Finally, the Kingdom of Redania has a bigger role to play in Time of Contemp and beyond, hence Radovid's appearance in Season 3.
So all of this validates Hissrich's comments that The Witcher Season XNUMX will draw heavily from Time of Contemp. With this book being his favorite in Sapkowski's fantasy series, we hope that Hissrich and company do justice to the characters that appear in this novel and the plot that unfolds.
