Cisco Webex Strengthens Administrative Controls to Support Hybrid Workforces

Cisco Webex has announced several new enhancements to its control center, with the goal of enabling administrators to better support a hybrid workforce.

Control Hub is a centralized management portal that allows Webex administrators to configure their service, manage users, and view usage analytics and reports. The latest updates aim to speed up the identification and resolution of user-related issues and improve collaboration.

The headline feature is a new integration with Cisco's ThousandEyes monitoring tool, which aims to help IT administrators diagnose and resolve quality issues with video conferences, calls, and user events. The integration is intended to help administrators know if quality issues are caused by the corporate network, a user's ISP, or something else. Once the problematic link is identified, Control Hub will provide diagnostic information to understand the cause of the problem.

ThousandEyes was a California-based company providing organizations with network visibility and stock acquired by Cisco in August 2020.

Cisco Webex also announced new Control Hub features as a trainer. These allow users to track key metrics, get step-by-step guidance on how to achieve key business results, and set company-specific goals that can be implemented and tracked over a quarterly time frame. This feature will be available to Webex users in the fall of 2022.

The final update simplifies license provisioning by creating templates for a group of users who need special licenses and configurations to meet compliance requirements. As new hires sync from Active Directory or onboard Webex, licenses and settings are automatically applied.

"Control Hub makes it easy for all businesses to manage today's distributed workforce, from a single screen," Jono Luk, Webex vice president of product management, said in a blog post announcing the updates.
