Released in May 2020, the show went through a tortuous development process. Josh Friedman, writer of Emerald City and Terminator: Dark Fate, was attached to direct the series, with a pilot directed by Doctor Strange's Scott Derrickson. But, in firing the pilot, Friedman was removed from the show after a dispute with network executives. Derrickson was asked to shoot the pilot again and refused to do so.
