Can't wait to be at the Summer Game Fest? Geoff Keighley says "manage your expectations"

With Summer Game Fest just days away, host Geoff Keighley urged viewers to "manage your expectations."

Taking the place of E3, Summer Game Fest 2022 marks the next big gaming showcase on June 9. Speaking during a Twitter Spaces audio session last weekend (transcribed by VGC - opens in a new tab)), Keighley said that this showcase is "mostly focused" on the announced games. As such, he played down "megaton shocks" at this year's event.

"What I would say is that a lot of the games that we're going to show you will be announced…the games will show you new content, like some of the ones I mentioned," Keighley confirms.

However, he did outline several games that we can expect to see. New gameplay footage has been confirmed for Gotham Knights, The Callisto Protocol, and Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gets a first level of gameplay.

curb the hype train

Not too surprisingly, Keighley seeks to temper expectations just before the showing. Summer Game Fest 2021 saw Bandai Namco finally bring us a long-awaited Elden Ring reveal. Although it was previously announced at E3 2019, we haven't seen anything since and it marked a high end to last year's showing.

We won't get anything as massive this time around, but that's not bad for those hoping for something new. "We have some new game announcements in the series and hopefully some surprises if it all holds together. But it's definitely a series that is mostly focused on things that get announced," he confirmed.

Although Summer Game Fest doesn't have many new reveals, there is plenty to see in the coming weeks. Microsoft is planning another Xbox and Bethesda showcase next week, while the Future Games Show and PC Gaming Show return. There's no word yet on a Nintendo Direct, but we hope to see confirmation soon.
