Cambridge Quantum Merges with Honeywell to Form Quantum Computing Supergiant

Two leading quantum computing companies, Honeywell Quantum Solutions and Cambridge Quantum, have teamed up to create Quantinuum, which is touted as the world's first full-stack quantum company.

By leveraging the quantum expertise of its two parent companies, Quantinuum plans to offer a full suite of quantum hardware and software, including the industry's first quantum operating system.

"We are led by science and business, and our scale and global presence in this most critical technology will provide leadership in each of the key areas that constitute the 'must haves' for quantum computing to deliver real-world solutions to all of us. our customers and partners,” said Ilyas Khan, founder of Cambridge Quantum, who will lead Quantinuum as CEO.

Honeywell explains that Quantinuum products and solutions will help support a multitude of high-priority tasks, such as cybersecurity and encryption, drug discovery and distribution, and more.

Quantinuum hopes to deliver the solutions in such a way that they are compatible with a variety of quantum hardware processors, such as the Honeywell-powered Model H1 system, as well as IBM's suite of quantum computers.

To that end, Quantinuum said it will provide all quantum software developers with open access to "tket," an independent quantum software development kit.

"Quantinuum customers will now have access to the world's first quantum operating system, hardware-independent software and applications, all of which will be used to meet the extremely challenging business needs faced by conventional computing systems," said Darius Adamczyk, Executive Director. from Honeywell, who joins Quantinuum as president.
