Bored Ape Yacht Club Hacked Discord Server, Stolen NFTs

A Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) official had his Discord account compromised and then used it to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Ethereum's native currency, ether, according to reports.

According to CoinDesk, BAYC community manager Boris Vagner's account was hacked, and the hackers behind the attack used the stolen identity (opens in a new tab) to post phishing links on BAYC's Discord channels and Otherside, the company. related metaverse project.

BAYC is one of the most popular and expensive NFT projects in the world, despite a number of well-known security risks and recent dramatic price fluctuations.

damage report

The attackers also posted phishing links on the Discord server of the Spoiled Banana Society, an NFT project that Boris runs with his brother Richard. The post was quickly removed, and Richard then requested a damage report from the community:

"Hi @everyone, we got hacked an hour ago, hope no one clicked the links. Didn't wipe the whole server," he said. all tabs are backed up in the following days and please let us know if there is anything else you messed up with.

So far, the attack appears to have stolen around 200 Ether from NFTs, which equates to around €360 at current prices.

Non-fungible tokens are a major trend among crypto fans right now, with some tokens reaching six-figure valuations. This has made it an attractive target for cybercriminals who come up with new methods of theft almost daily.

Less than a month ago, it was discovered that a threat actor had masqueraded as the Pixelmon NFT project, creating the entire website from scratch and making it nearly identical, except crucially: it was distributing password-stealing malware called Vidar.

Scammers also post fake jobs in the NFT industry, trying to get the private keys of people's Ethereum wallets and through them their valuable NFT collections.
