Apple and Meta team up to track your Quest 2 workouts

Meta's Oculus mobile app is about to become a better fitness partner. Once you've downloaded the latest updates, you'll find that all of your Move goals and data is not only stored on your Meta Quest 2 headset, but also on your smartphone app.

Move is a great free fitness app for the Meta's Quest 2 headset that tracks your activity in virtual reality. Once turned on, it runs in the background while you play any Quest 2 game (whether it's one of the best VR fitness games on the platform or any other VR title) and keeps track of your progress towards your goals. .

The only problem is that his stats are locked to his headset, but that's about to change. With the latest update to the Oculus mobile app, you no longer need to enter VR to see how you're progressing toward your goals—all the data will be right there on your smartphone.

While this update to the Oculus mobile app is available on Android smartphones and iOS devices, those using an iPhone or iPad will get a little extra benefit.

You'll be able to sync your Move data with the Apple Health app so all your data can be tracked in one hub.

Combine that with the new health features coming to iOS 16 and watchOS 9 that were announced during the WWDC 2022 keynote, like medication tracking and better health monitoring, and it looks like your Apple Watch and your iPhone could be paired with your Quest 2 to be an amazing fitness tech setup.

How to sync Move with the Oculus mobile app and Apple Health

If you haven't already, you must first activate the Move app. To do this on your Quest 2, simply open your apps and games menu and search for Move among your other titles. Open it and follow the setup process to activate it.

Now, to sync it with your Oculus mobile app, you'll need to open Move again and tap Settings in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Scroll down and you should then see "Connect Move to the Oculus Mobile App." Please enable this option as you can see in the GIF below.

Now your Move stats (such as calories burned and VR fitness goals) will be encrypted and stored on Meta's servers so you can track your fitness progress from the Oculus mobile app. Assuming you downloaded the Oculus mobile app from the App Store (opens in a new tab) or Google Play Store (opens in a new tab), you should be able to track all your data from this smartphone app.

Once you follow these steps, iOS users can link Move up with Apple Health.

Just tap the ride data on your Oculus mobile app and at the top of the screen you should see "Connected Apps."

Tap it to access a new menu, then tap the switch next to "Apple Health" to enable cross-app syncing. You'll need to provide some permissions for this to fully work, but once enabled, all your health data in and out of VR will be stored in one place.
