The search for a decent game-to-film adaptation is as rare as the artifact genre that Uncharted hero Nathan Drake himself would pursue. But the next Uncharted movie might have solved it, says Tom Holland, the Marvel movie star who will play a young Drake in the franchise's next big-screen version. "Shooting is going great," Holland said (seen by Comic Book in an Instagram live chat). "The movie is everything I dreamed of. I mean, I don't know if you've played the games, but I was a big fan of the game and it's going really well. "I think what Uncharted offers that most video game movies don't offer it's that it's an origin story from the games. "So if you're playing, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the movie," he said. "And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the movie because it's information that everyone gets at the same time. But I'm very excited to make this movie and it's been a long time."
A big adventure
The Uncharted movie journey from the popular game to the movie set has been uploaded. First announced in 2009, he was sidelined from six directorial attempts at adaptation before finally landing on Zombieland and Venom's Ruben Fleischer. Looking at the first part of Drake's exploits, Indiana-Jones style, the movie was scheduled to hit theaters in late 2020 according to Sony's study, but filming restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic mean it's been postponed to summer 2021. If that turns out to be really good, we're happy to wait a little longer to see how the game movie curse is broken. Holland calls his script "one of the best ever to read," so we have high hopes.
