Aliens: Dark Descent trailer reveals brutal co-op shooter

The new game revealed at Summer Game Fest kicked off with Aliens: Dark Descent, a cooperative shooter in the style of Alien Swarm and The Ascent. You'll be able to peek into the action, which means you'll get a better view of the xenomorphs as they lunge at you and disembowel you.

The Aliens: Dark Descent reveal trailer has a lot to love and a great start to Summer Game Fest. It starts with a view of the classic sea ship, close-ups of pulse rifles, smart guns and motion trackers, it's everything we'd like to see in an Aliens game. Check it out below:

Although there are many Alien games, they have certainly mixed. The absolute top picks are Alien Isolation and Alien Vs Predator 2, but more recent entries like Aliens: Fireteam leave a lot to be desired. The cooperative third-person shooter failed to capture the terror and power of the creatures you fight.

So will Aliens: Dark Descent be able to enter the pantheon? At first glance, a co-op bird's-eye shooter doesn't seem like a match for the alien cannon. If you don't know the action, how can you find the xenomorph so scary? Except there's a fantastic game that developer Tindalos seems to be using as a template for Dark Descent: Alien Swarm.

Available for free on Steam, Alien Swarm is an excellent cooperative shooter that lets you take on, well, you guessed it, swarms of aliens. You and your friends are constantly facing walls of meaty enemies that crush you into tight corners and hallways before eating you alive.

You can control the space by using heavy weapons like machine guns and flamethrowers, but also by welding the airlock doors to try to limit the speed of the swarm. It seems that Aliens: Dark Descent has the same function.

We have to wait a while to find out if Aliens: Dark Descent lives up to Alien Swarm, it won't be out until 2023. But I can't wait to see more. It's coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
