We know that a VR headset called Project Cambria is on the way from Meta (formerly known as Facebook and/or Oculus), but what we don't yet know is exactly what the new hardware will look like. .
Unofficial renders put together by tipster Brad Lynch (via SlashGear) may give us some ideas. Lynch says these renders were created using leaked information from the supply chain, and he is "250%" confident in their accuracy. They look like the official previews we've seen of the hardware (see the top of this article).
Although the device is not much different from the Oculus Quest 2 in terms of aesthetics, it appears to be lighter and more elegant. We're betting it'll be a lot more powerful under the hood, too.

These renders don't look too much in VR headsets, but a front-facing camera is seen - it's thought this will enable support for mixed reality, or augmented reality, where digital elements are overlaid onto real-world scenes.
Meta has already committed to a 2022 release window for the Project Cambria device, so we should see the reality sooner rather than later. We also know that it will be a stand-alone headset that doesn't need to be connected to a PC to work.
Eye-tracking is one of the key features expected to set the more expensive new headset apart from the Oculus Quest 2: it means that parts of a scene you're looking at will be able to be rendered at higher quality and in greater detail.
While Meta has revealed some details about Project Cambria, there's still a lot we don't know about the company's VR projects. What is certain, however, is that another big VR and AR push is in the offing, metaverse and all.
There are also rumors of an Oculus Quest 2 Pro (although the Oculus name will most likely be dropped in the future). Recent reports have hinted that an improved successor to the Oculus Quest 2 could appear in addition to whatever Project Cambria is, though these two leaked devices may end up being the same hardware.
With all of that in mind, all eyes will be on Meta during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, which takes place on April 20. Might as well see some new hardware.
It now seems likely that we'll see at least one, if not two, VR devices from the Meta stable before the end of the year. Given the success of the impressive Quest 2, it is possible that these devices will attract many more users to explore virtual worlds and games.
