Possible spoilers for The Witcher: Blood Origin follow.
The Witcher: Blood Origin star Minnie Driver has suggested that she will not appear in season 3 of Netflix's main Witcher series.
Speaking exclusively to TechRadar during the spin-off show's UK tour, Driver tried to downplay reports that his character, Seanchaí, would be making the jump to the main series, starting with season 3 of The Witcher.
In Blood Origin, Driver's Seanchaí is a shape-shifting narrator who can cross time and space. These abilities allow the mysterious chronicler to travel to different realms and time periods, recounting long-forgotten stories to specific individuals as he goes. In doing so, Seanchaí has the power to guide various worlds (and their races) down a different path, a path that will hopefully lead to a better future for all.
Given Seanchaí's ability to time travel, fans of Netflix's live-action Witcher series think it's only a matter of time before Driver's character crosses over to the main show. After all, Seanchaí does interact with fan-favorite Jaskier (Joey Batey) in Blood Origin, so the spinoff series set the precedent for her clashing with other Witcher characters in the future.
However, when we asked Driver if she could confirm if she'd appear in The Witcher season 3, it's understandable that the Oscar nominee was careful what she said.
"No, I mean, I'd love to!" Driver responded when asked if he could tell if he was in season 3. "There's a lot of secrecy surrounding the show, just because the creators want to give fans the best possible experience when they watch it. I did not participate in those discussions."

It's natural to assume that Driver's response is a public relations tirade. As she said, given the secrecy surrounding Netflix's Witcher series, it wouldn't be fair for one of Netflix's best fan bases to confirm her involvement at this point. Still, filming on The Witcher season 3 has wrapped (the show's third season arrives in the second quarter of 2023), so Driver knows if her character is part of the proceedings, though she and Netflix don't want to. reveal it yet.
While she couldn't directly answer that question, Driver did reveal that she would be open to reprising her role as Seanchaí in another season of The Witcher or even in her own spin-off project. If Seanchaí is starring in his own Netflix production, there's one Witcher character in particular Driver would like to interact with as well.
"Dating Geralt would be great," Driver revealed. “But yeah, I love this world and this character. I love that he can get into really dangerous situations, move through this landscape, and then shapeshift.
“I think the idea of being the story keeper is so deep and magical that I would really love to see her reach out to other characters and help them with their stories in this world. But we will have to see what happens. it will happen."
If Driver's Seanchaí doesn't appear in The Witcher season 3, he won't be interacting with Henry Cavill's hugely popular interpretation of Geralt of Rivia. Cavill will leave the hit Netflix series once season 3 premieres, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt in The Witcher season 4 and beyond.
Fans reacted angrily to the news, going so far as to start a petition on Change.org(opens in a new tab) for Netflix to fire the show's writers and retain Cavill's services. In response to Cavill's departure, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich exclusively told TechRadar that she "fully understands" fans' concerns about Cavill's departure, but hopes the fanbase will stick around to watch. where the live action franchise is going.
