Marvel's Spider-Man 2 News Could Be Imminent: Here's Why

A PlayStation Store page for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been spotted, suggesting more details about Insomniac Games' upcoming web adventure will be shared very soon.

Pointed out by Twitter user Wario64 (opens in a new tab), a dedicated listing for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was previously live on the PlayStation Store in the UK, allowing players to list the next PS5 exclusive. Since Wario64's tweet, the page has apparently been removed and the link now leads to an error page. However, you can still see the page listed on Google (Opens in a new tab). It is not clear if the page was loaded accidentally or not.

Adding fuel to the fire, developer Insomniac Games' community manager James Stevenson recently tweeted (Opens in a new tab) an enigmatic gif of the game's official trailer (Opens in a new tab), showing the two Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles. Morales side by side.

Having been seen days apart, the combination of the gif image and the discovery of the wishlist page has led many fans to speculate that this could be the creative team's way of mocking incoming news. . We could expect details about the long-awaited return of the filming crusader to hit the web, though it hasn't been officially confirmed.

(*2*) Spidey tingles

Swinging from one skyscraper to another, chasing bad guys and scaling the outer wall of your building to get home for dinner, all in one day's work for Spider-Man. The first installment of the action-packed vigilante game caused quite a stir back in 2018, and if the trailer is any good, we can expect its sequel to pack an equally strong punch.

But why is there reason to believe that we might get new information now? It's just a gif and a broken Google link, so why get your hopes up? Well, part of the answer is that Nadji Jeter, the voice actor for Miles Morales for the Spider-Man movies and video games, has been very active on his personal Twitter.

On Dec. 8, Jeter retweeted (opens in new tab) a September 2021 tweet from the official SpiderMan account, which is a deep enough dive to share a year-old trailer. That's not the only thing Jeter is promoting to his 28.600 followers. The day before, on December 7, he retweeted (opens in a new tab) Insomniac Games' response to a fan playing the first game, in which the developer said it was the "perfect time to start over." .

Combine those cryptic retweets with the PlayStation Store page and the standalone James Stevenson gif, and it looks like Insomniac Games is hinting at some impending news, though that might just be wishful thinking.

The story so far

It's been over four years since Marvel's Spider-Man was released, and with the exception of a trailer released in 2021 and various nuggets of information provided by the developer, we haven't heard many details about Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

In a 2021 podcast interview, Marvel VP Creative Bill Rosemann teased that the sequel would be darker and grittier, stylistically comparing it to Empire Strikes Back. From the trailer revealed at PlayStation Showcase the same year, we learn that the sharp-toothed Venom will be a key antagonist in this sequel, stalking Peter Parker and Miles Morales across the vast New York cityscape. We know that Venom will be played by horror icon Tony Todd, who voiced the original Candyman in the 1992 slasher flick, confirming Rosemann's hint that the Spider-Man sequel will take a darker turn.

We also know that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be a PS5 exclusive, with no plans yet to ship the title to older-gen consoles or PC (although the latter likely will at some point). With no concrete new information yet, the only obvious thing to do is obsessively refresh the leaked PS Store page (opens in a new tab) and hope for the best.
