I'm Not Ready For The Hairy Meat Spider In This Elden Ring-Like Chinese RPG

Via a Wes Anderson-esque stop-motion trailer, publisher Game Science has announced the release window for its upcoming action RPG Black Myth: Wukong. A game that is somewhat similar to Elden Ring if it has a place in Chinese mythology.

We can expect Black Myth: Wukong to be released in the middle of XNUMX. It may seem like a good time to those who still have their hat on XNUMX, but in reality, it's only eighteen months. Which isn't that long, unless you're a rabbit.

That's the spin Game Science is putting on things with the Black Myth: Wukong launch window trailer. The animated video shows a guinea pig spending its life waiting for the game. See, this defies explanation, and you should watch it to see what I'm talking about.

While it's clear from the trailer that Black Myth: Wukong is coming to PC, Game Science has yet to confirm which consoles the title is coming to. Let's hope we see Black Myth on PS5 or Xbox Series X | S because of the fact that the game is coming to "other major consumer consoles," according to the Game Science site (opens in a new tab).

Black Myth: Wukong is set on an oriental-inspired fantasy planet, where you play as the legendary character Wukong as he journeys through a desolate and unforgiving landscape, defeating fabulous opponents. Inspired by the XNUMXth century Chinese novel Journey to the West, Wukong will meet many strange and mythical characters on his way.

There's a giant meaty spider somewhere and honestly, it scares me already.

While the new trailer only features a snippet of gameplay, in XNUMX Game Science announced Black Myth with thirteen minutes of gameplay footage (opens in a new tab). The new clip resembles Elden Ring in its weary grayscale landscape; we can see Wukong fighting what appears to be a huge tiger wielding a menacing longsword. In this short fight, it seems that the best way to take down this tiger is to hit him and then get out of there before he attacks. In this sense, the attacks also mimic Elden Ring in hit and evade combat style.

Inspired by Chinese myth and recreating the planet from Journey to the West, which is a fantasy epic in the vein of the Iliad and Homer's Adventure, one can expect a vast landscape filled with strange monsters. Exploring these stories in an RPG will allow us to get closer to these monsters, for better or worse: there's a giant meaty spider somewhere, and honestly, that already scares me.

A good time ahead

Although 2011 doesn't seem like too much to wait for me, maybe it's because I just found out about Black Myth. The project has been in development since XNUMX; It took Game Science twelve years of hard work to get to this point.

Game Science discusses the pitfalls of carrying out this monumental task on the Black Myth: Wukong info page (opens in a new tab); he wonders if he has worked hard enough or even if it has been worth it. "Throughout countless nights of overwork, exhausted, half-funny, we ask ourselves: how much does it matter?" claims GameScience.

Fortunately, Game Science has faith in its long-awaited RPG and is moving full steam ahead to achieve its planned release window of XNUMX. In the meantime, we can sit back and wait for more news on Wukong and where he's headed next.
